Three days later we are at 500 fans and still going strong! Still roughly holding at about 30 something new fans a day. We started the FlightGear fan page on facebook right at the beginning of December so it would be great to hit 900 fans by the end of the month.

Over 600 fans now!

Also, since I'm on my iPod, I looked at the page on the Facebook app and there's a field for website.

621 and still climbing at about 30 per day ... not too bad ... that really starts to add up over the course of weeks and months.

I looked at the page and the website field is filled in correctly, must be a bug in the iphone app or a momentary glitch or something different that I screwed up?

When you click on it, it leads to the correct page. The app definitely is buggy, statuses or photos posted from it don't appear on my newsfeed, but they do in my profile.

Here's another new facebook page claiming to be the real FlightGear. http://www.facebook.com/pages/FlightGea ... 8898405195

I'm so sick of seeing these. I wanna support this project, but I want to shut down all these jokers that post affiliate links to the flightgear rip-off sites first.

This page link above needs to be reported by an admin for the facebook FlightGear page (perhaps Curtis).

I've already reported this page (and several others just like them). I'm under the impression that the flightgear dot us site is something that I would describe as a "mutant affiliate" in the sense that he's not just concealing the truth about FlightGear vs. ProSimFlight, but actively lying about it (and pretty aggressive at that).

To the best of my knowledge, everybody with a facebook account can report these pages and I would recommend everybody to continually do so. I usually find a couple of new ones on a daily basis and we need to acquire a critical mass before facebook takes action.

So in essence, if you want to fight these pages, just do a search for FlightGear (or Pro Flight Sim, or FlightProSim, or whatever) on facebook and report every suspicious page and keep checking. The most offensive pages have been removed already, and if we keep reporting, we can at least confine their effect (I hope).

Cheers,
Durk

I created a thread over here -- viewtopic.php?f=42&t=10563 -- whereby I've searched Facebook for the profiles that support the FlightGear rip-off pages. I'm very pleased to say that the first batch of profiles (about 20 of them) and pages (5 of them) have all been removed by Facebook. Of course more have been created (and will continue to be created), but we have proven that if each fake profile and page gets reported a few times, then it will be deleted.

Veeeery close 2,000 now. Today, tomorrow?

Since the 1,500 threshold, the growth rate has been at ~ 20/day - still pretty good!
