Weird model on multiplayer

during multiplayer, I cannot see other's aircraft models. Instead, all I see is a geometric shape that doesn't resemble the airplane's shape at all.
Is this really supposed to be like this?

Thats the default Generic model. You will see that if you do not have the other players model installed or an AI version exists in Flight gear.
If you do have the other aircraft installed and you see that model, then your LOD range settings might be the cause.
