How to do a shared cockpit over multiplayer

Postby EpicPlanelover11 » Sat Mar 20, 2021 6:35 am

Pretty simple question, just can somebody give me step-by-step instructions on how to do a shared cockpit flight? Want to do a fun flight with my friend.
I'm on MacOS and the newest version of FlightGear. I have 100mbps internet so I think I would have a good enough internet connection to do a shared cockpit

i'm guessing you are speaking of how to use dual control as a user and not as a dev...

as a user, you load a craft as normal... the copilot loads the same craft but they select the copilot version of the craft... once both are loaded, the pilot has to use the in-sim F10 menu and use the menu option to select the copilot so the craft code will handle the additional data... that should be about it unless i've forgotten a subtle step or two...

remember: not all craft are dual control capable... there will likely be some lag which may cause weirdness... not everything is possible to be done by the 2nd person... many times the 2nd person is just along for the ride...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I think the pilot has to actively select the copilot too.
Otherwise you described it like i remember.

I meant that I can't find anywhere in the menu where I would select the co-pilot

I would look at the multiplayer menu, and also the aircraft menu.
If it isn’t there, probably the plane had no support for dual cockpit.

Which plane are we talking about, specifically?

The Boeing 757, which has a first officer aircraft so I am assuming it has dual cockpit

looking at the 757-200-fo-set.xml file, yes, it does appear to use DualControl...

looking through the -set file, it looks like there is an option in the in-sim F10 craft specific menu to "Select MP-pilot"

i also note that the status of at least the FO variant is "early production"...

i don't know if FGData/Aircraft/Generic/DualControl/README.dual-control will be of any help to you but it does provide some information on how to use it... some for craft devs but also some for usage...
