I can't see the other player's model

Postby Bulldog 1 » Fri Aug 25, 2017 11:40 am

I have a problem, when i'm with the (A-10) and the other pilots has an (a320) I can't see the plane, I see the yellow-blue RC Aircraft. But when the other pilot has the same aircraft than me, I can see them. I haved flightgear for a long time and with older versions and this doesn't happen. Can somebody help?

Thanks in advance

Try installing the same A380 version as the other person is using. The default model when an aircraft is not present on your system is the blue and yellow glider.

"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

there may be a naming difference between the A320 in A320-Family and A320Family... the former is the default one in FGAddon whereas the latter is the one by it0uchpods...

when you and your friend are on MP and this happens, open up the MP pilot list and tell us if his craft is listed with square brackets around it and if his row is orange or not...

The a320-family (with dash, not mine) is known to have multiplayer issues.

I fixed these all in my A320Family (no dash) model.

Kind Regards,

it doesn't make sense that you can see the other craft only if you are flying the same craft, either... if you have the craft in your local hanger, it should show up whenever anyone else is around flying it no matter what other craft you are in at that time...

It might if the craft in question has a per-aircraft-dir-relative /sim/model/path - the path resolution might then find the MP model since it might possibly search the main aircraft directory. However, I'm not certain if the path resolution for MP models includes the main aircraft directory in the search.

yeah, i thought about that... my understanding is that all those (in FGData and FGAddon) had been fixed a year or so back... leading '/' (slashes) are only needed for some things... if used in the wrong properties, it can lead to conflicts and property tree "poisoning" of other MP player's systems while flying in the vicinity of that craft...

Hmm, no. This issue, if it is it, is not about the name of properties it is only about the contents of the property /sim/model/path (on the player's side) which is what is used to find the (top level) 3d model for a MP aircraft on the remote side.

You can easily check what others send using the telnet command for linux:
Code: Select all
telnet mpserver02.flightgear.org 5001

and check the path last on each line. If it only says "Models/foo.xml" there is a problem (or it is a very unusual aircraft whose model is in $fgdata/Models/).

ahhh! thanks for that, AndersG! i've tweaked it a bit
Code: Select all
telnet mpserver02.flightgear.org 5001 | cut -d " " -f 11 | sort | uniq

and here's the results of a quick poll just now (26 Aug 2017 19:54 UTC-4)
Code: Select all
Aircraft/707/Models/707.xml
Aircraft/747-400/Models/747-400.xml

it is my understanding that all craft in MP should be using "Aircraft/whatevercraft/Models" for their path which would seem to indicate that the above 738 craft is non-conformant... at the time of this post, there are four of them in use...

[time passes]

well, that didn't last long... not even enough time for me to go pop up near one or more of them and see if i could see their craft... they're all gone out of MP less than three minutes of my scan :(
