Starting A Australian FGMS Server

Postby Sonic » Sat Dec 24, 2011 1:20 am

Hey Guys,

Thinking about starting a Australian FGMS for those Australians who are 2 Lagged on other servers..

I have a VPS with Unlimited Data which I use for sum web hosting and mail and thought about running a FGMS server as i LOVE FlightGear Multiplayer..

What do you guys think?

What specs do i need to run this server successfully..

I am a Linux Sys Admin so I know all the in's and out's of a Linux Server..

Cheers

Welcome Sonic!

Would be awesome to have another server! It'd be best to drop a mail to the devel-mailinglist (where all the other server maintainers are lurking).

Cheers,
Gijs

Linux VPS + unlimited bandwidth sound about right for fgms :-)

That sounds perfect, all you need to know can be found here: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:_Set_u ... yer_server
With your background, it should take you about 3-5 minutes building and configuring fgms.

Let us know if you need any help though!

Like Gijs said, it's a good idea to get in touch with the developers (actually, Curt), so that the mpserverXX.flightgear.org alias can be set up for your IP.

Also, once your server is set up and running, you may want to add it to this list: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:_Multiplayer
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit

Ok.. I have joined the FlightGear-Devel mailing list..

I have compiled the server and it runs..

but it says Max: 1 connection...

When i open 2 flightgears n connect to my server.. only one connects.. and can only see 1 connect in the server log..

I have server.ishub=True

The IP Address for testing is 113.212.96.233

Any ideas

Thanks

Hi Sonic,

it seems that you have compiled the version 0.9.11. Maybe you can try to get the latest stable release (0.10.9 I guess) ?
Anyway, I have added your server in my list of relay servers so you should get the list of pilots locally connected to mpserver13.

Hi Sonic,

of course you can add mpserver13 in your relay list. I guess you have added all official servers ?

Is your server still accepting only one connection at a time ?
I have almost the same option values you gave in your previous post, and mpserver13 works fine.

Hi sonic,

BTW, if that can help figuring out the needed B/W here are the graphs for mpserver10. This is not a largely used server.
http://mpserver10.flightgear.org/rrdtoo ... trend=eth0
In my case:
- I relay only to Oliver's Hub (mpserver01), so I spare B/W for me and other independant mpservers.
- There is no other services than fgms and its rrdtool web page on this VPS so the graphs show the real fgms traffic.

You can also have a look here for servers status: http://mpmap01.flightgear.org/mpstatus/

And welcome onboard :-)
