only sometimes the multiplayer works

Postby sanni » Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:22 pm

Hey all,

I'm using archlinux on a Toshiba Notebook.
When I start Flightgear the multiplayer only works sometimes.
Sometimes it works after a few minutes or a little bit more. But everytime not for a long time.
The content of my rc-file (don't use fgrun):
Code: Select all

btw: a message appears:
Cannot start scenery download. Local cache directory is undefined.

Can't find anything about the cache dir. How can I define it?

Any hints?

No answer yet.. I will try a little bit.

Do you also run terrasync or atlas.
The errormessage you get makes me think so, but you did not tell.
Even more strange, I cannot find the error message in any of the executables. ( version 2.3 fg ,0.4.8 atlas/map, terrasync does not tell the version )
Maby your problem is version dependent ?
Could even be a network problem, do you use a proxy ?
( When I use a proxy i have also some problems. )

Couple ideas...

Is archbook defined in your /etc/hosts file? You might also try using localhost or instead of localhost. If multiplayer is intermittent, it could be a problem at the server. Have tried using another mpserver?

For your cache problem, does your user account have write access to the FG-SCENERY directory?

When I read this again, I think you also need to setup a seperate dir for the scenery download.
That's recommended.
so create /usr/share/flightgear/scenery2 ( as example )
and add it to your startup :

Make shure you can write it....
