One of the several great aspects of his explanation is that he uses a picture which shows an imperfect approach. Yet the rhetoric continues to be calm and collected, demonstrating that there is no need to panic and how the ILS will continue to help; thereby adding even more confidence to the reader.

Leonardo himself would have been proud of such a little gem: perfect in its imperfection.

Just to clear things up. The localiser antenna is at the upwind end of the runway and the glidepath antenna is just off the runway inline with the touchdown point. If an ILS has a DME component, they are often configured to give zero range at the threshold and not their physical location.
