Navigating with DME, Code versus frequency

Postby jaques.flightgear » Tue Mar 23, 2010 9:50 pm

Hi fg gurus,

I think I have a basic understandig of navigating an aircraft after approx. 3 years practicing fg. But there are still topics I dont understand:

If you have a look @ EDNY (Friedrichshafen) there is a DME placed on the airport (blue square symbol). The transmitting frq is announced as 073X.
In which instrument can I enter this frequency? Is there a decoding how to calculate the freq. in MHz, cause in the menue
"radio freq" I can only enter freq. in MHz in the DME instrument.

The Code reminds me on a TACAN frequency. But it has nothing to do with TACAN.

Who can give me a hint?

Cheers Jaques

DME channels are paired to NAV frequencies and are usually invisible to pilots. There should be a NAV-frequency enclosed in parenthesis near the DME indicating that this is a DME only. Dial this frequency in your NAV and the associated DME is set to the coresponding channel.

I have no link for the fixed frequency-channel table at hand, but there should be something floating around the net.

Hi jaques,

I don't know which charts you are using, but the latest I could find, gives me DME 112.60 for EDNY.
No idea which frq is in FGFS.

Maybe EDNY had a tacan in former days doe to Dornier maintaining the Bundeswehr aircrafts.

Hi Torsten, hi HHS,

I found a conversion table on the net.
Have a look @ http://www.tpub.com/content/aviationand ... 10_491.htm

The Channel 073X corresponds to a freq. of 112.6. It works I get an accurate information on the DME in piper seneca.

Thanks a lot!

Cheers Jaques
