Cessna 172 is not starting

Good morning/evening/night everyone!

I installed Flightgear 2020.3.12 some days ago from Manjaro Linux using pamac/AUR and was enjoying starting my Cessna 172 on it, following the checklist completely.

Since one or two days, however, if I try to start this aircraft, even if I am following the checklist step by step (including 6 primes), my propeller stops quickly after I release the magnetos from the "start" position. I have read a Cessna 172 POH that I found on internet and followed it, as well as followed the checklist on the program, and I'm stuck on that since then.

I have seen a thread similar to this (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=33130&start=15&hilit=172+172+start+172+startup) from some years ago the following tips were mentioned there:
1) Getting Flight Gear 2020.3.9. I have 2020.3.12, which seems the newest, and It didnt help
2) Checking airport altitude. My airport is EDDW, at 14 ft MSL, so I dont see why it would be a problem
3) Trying autostart. It also didnt work, saying that I should lean the mixture myself (it also once said something about flushing).

I also tried putting a lean mixture and openning the throttle (I read this on a Rod Machado book), pressing start again, then doing the official checklist again, but it didnt work.

I am wondering if this is a bug (but Im not fully convinced, as it was working 3 days ago), or if this is a real aircraft behaviour (in this case, what should I do?)

Yes, I did follow every single step of the checklist, including the 6 primes (even though its not stated on the log). I even could see the prime count at 6 when I hovered my mouse over the primer.

Just to make sure go to menu->Cessna172p->Aircraft Options
enable damage, click repair, disable damage.
This should take care of any strange state the AC might be in.
You might also try to remove the $HOME/.fgfs directory entirely but this is kind of a long shot (since you installed a very old FG 3.9.12 first, the current stable you have may see some 'strange' data there, but it is only a guess).
Other than that:
- fuel in tanks (Menu>Equipment>Fuel and Payload)
- fuel selector to 'both'
- battery switch ON
- mixture at 95%-100%
- throttle at 30%
- magnetos BOTH
- prime three times
- press 's' and hold for a second or two.

That is it. Works every time.

DON'T remove the complete .fgfs directory ! at least not yet. Instead, if none of the other things Mariusz pointed out help, try deleting the $HOME/.fgfs/aircraft-data/c172p.xml file - this will reset the aircraft to "factory state".

Were there any nasal "errors" in the section of the log you omitted? If auto start isn't working, then I suspect something is wrong or broken.
There was a version a long ways back that had an issue where the key skipped the mag turning on unless you physically stepped through the key positions. I doubt you have that version though. Any unrelated nasal error could account for this behavior though.

You have received some technical recommendations, let me recall you about some other less technical things you could check :

- You must push the primer between 3 and 5 times, or something similar. Less pushes and there is not enough fuel in the cylinder. More pushes and the cylinder is flooded with fuel. Yes, this is a very sensitive engine, like its real life counterpart. In real life, you'll notice a "force feedback": you stop before the force you need to push the lever is uncomfortably high. There is not such feedback in a simulator, unfortunately.

- The C172, unlike most other aircraft in FlightGear, remembers the state of the battery and the fuel deposit (among many other things). Have you checked you've got fuel in the deposit? Is your battery charged?

Click on "help->c172->repair" to repair most of these little things. This would be similar to removing the $HOME/.fgfs/aircraft-data/c172p.xml file , as suggested above.

Wow, what an experience!

I wonder if I enabled it by myself, or if its the default...

I think that for beginners it would be helpful default to get a text saying that there is a damage (and where) so they don't feel so lost as me on their first day

Of course experts should be able of disabling this warning as they are supposed to know what they are doing
