F-16 HUD jumping around (2020.4)

Postby William » Sat Apr 09, 2022 12:39 pm

Hello all

Flying an F16 in version 2020.4 the whole HUD/Dashboard section hovers around a few millimeters in reference to the seat position and triple nose fin position.
In 2020.3.13 the HUD was stable.

What is causing this
Is this effect by design
How to disable this effect ? (tried many settings, none made it stable)

Thanks

William

This sounds like simulated head movements. I think you can enable and disable them in the view menu.

For me when I move the view in the cockpit, the HUD moves around. I think this an intended feature.

Yeah … this is indeed intended behaviour, it's like this for the built-in HUD, too. But, for the builtin HUD this can be disabled by pressing Shift+i three times - that cycles through the different built-in HUD's. This probably won't work for the F-16 as it has ONE custom HUD.

Hello

Thanks for replies

I noticed
- 3.14 HUD on F16E is stable
- Shift-i x 3 does not work
- Disabling Dynamic view does not change its behavior
- Found no other setting changing this behavior
- It was not there in jan 2022, so it was added recently

Situation:
F16E (and other versions)
The Pilot sits still (does not move), the flight is stable on autopilot: there should not be Dynamic motion induced by flight maneuvers.
The triple nose cones are stable relative to the Pilots position.

But the HUD - and in fact the whole dashboard- jumps around a few pixels in an irregular fashion.

It looks silly.

And I find it very tiring to watch.

Please make it go away !

Okay, that's something different then. What do you mean with dashboard - the instrument panel ?

As for Shift+i x3 not working … well, I told you it (probably) is disabled on the F16 ! ;)

I have no idea what could cause this … but I'll test the F-16 in the evening and see if I can find out the cause.

The first thing I notice is that the HUD is not working. The speed tape is at bottom as if you have no speed. That in itself indicates some bug going on.

The jumping around is a feature called buffeting. Buffeting occurs when you pull high G forces and when rolling fast on runways.

Have you edited your f16 in any way? The buffeting and non working HUD indicates something bad is going on.
