Hi

i need a tutorial on taking off from ksfo navigating to Los angels using a Boeing 707 . i am a 1st time flyer .

There is simple question :
How realistic You want fly ?

1) Unrealistic : Use FG Route Manager, on the central console select AP to the GPS mode (IRL 707 has not this mode, only IRS, not simulated in the FG)
2) Realistic : Use one of many flightplanners, generate route in old school style VOR to VOR, note VOR frequency and use NAV radio, tune frequency and "follow the arrow", when You will reach VOR, on the NAV radio tune next VOR and again follow the arrow.

For example :
- before take off from KSFO tune Salinas VOR (117.3), after take off fly course approx 134 deg resp. follow the arrow,
- over the Salinas tune Avenal VOR (117.1), again follow the arrow (course approx 110 deg)
- over the Avenal, tune Fillmore VOR (112.5) and follow the arrow, (course approx 129 deg)
- over the Fillmore, tune LAX VOR (113.6), again follow the arrow (course approx 121 deg) to KLAX. IRL ATC will vector You to the final approach. In FG, make approach to usable runway in according to the wind direction.
Fly high, fly fast - fly Concorde !

I started flying in the old days with charts, kneepads, and VORs, as you described.
Have used the FG Autopilot and Route manager extensively; and while they may not be entirely cockpit realistic, they are excellent simulations for someone wanting to learn and
really understand radio navigation.
Think it better for someone new to choose a plane with essential instruments, but simpler than the 707, making it easier to observe what's going on.
The 737-100 might be a good choice.
It's best to understand how all the autopilot features work, and use it navigating in the manner you have described, before using the route manager.
When setting up the route manager, it's best to have the map displayed, since it shows the route in magenta; and you can tell if the route was not created as intended.
You can make necessary changes, provided the route has not already been activated.
