F16 - cannot select targets via 'y'

Postby shibumi » Sat May 15, 2021 6:16 pm

Hi,

I am very new to Flightgear, but I somehow managed to start the F16 without Autostart, get it in the air and everything.

There is just one thing I still have trouble with: Selecting targets via pressing 'y' or 'Y'.

On my B-Scope radar on the left I can see white dots, but if I press 'y' I cannot select them as targets.
Is this because I can only select these dots if I see them on my RWR as well?

I tried playing a few dog fights via spawning bandits, but out of 20-30 flights I maybe managed it only once to get a bandit in my sight and get a 'yellow' flag on my B-Scope radar.

1. Is it true, that I can only select military targets via pressing 'y' or 'Y'?
2. Is there any way to spawn 'easy' targets for the F16? The dogfight bandits are too difficult for me, although I know the flight basics already.

For beyond visual range:
1: If the B-scope say NOT SOI, press SHIFT-ARROWDOWN
2: Use ARROW keys to move the cursor around
3: Use key L to lock.

For within visual range:
1: Press D to go into dogfight mode
2: Press R to turn on the radar (unless you want to lock him silent with an AIM-9)
3: Get the opponent in the HUD approx. It will autolock.

Thanks a lot necolatis.

The manual way via B-scope works and auto-selecting in dog fight mode works as well, but I am curious:

Does this mean the F16 guide is not up to date? because it says "press y/Y for next/previous target".

Yep, thats what it means.
Haven't gotten around to make a new Youtube guide. Most of the tips in the 3 videos still hold though, so still worth watching.
