Why are planes so slow when using autopilot

Postby AutizmoWizmo » Sat Mar 27, 2021 12:59 am

Hello I am new to flightgear and I recently started doing planned flights and I have noticed that when using autopilot none of the planes are able to go over 400 knots/ias
does anyone know if I am doing something wrong or if it is a issue with the game the planes that I am using the most are the 747 a380 omega and a350 and the 777 aswell

You may need to read up on the differences between indicated airspeed (IAS), true airspeed (TAS) and for you most relevant: ground speed.

Short answer: due to density and temperature at cruising altitude, IAS will be much lower than ground speed.

Oh and please: don't call it a game :-P

Also check the Mach number. The aircraft that you mentioned cruise at Mach 0.85 to Mach 0.88.
