Strange problems with the Boeing 707 (anti-ice) [solved]

Postby Timmon63 » Sun Jan 17, 2021 11:29 pm

Sorry if I am doing this wrong, but I am very much a newbie to this.

Whenever I fly the Boeing 707, I get a strange problem about an hour into the flight in which the anti-ice warning sounds and tells me to turn on the wing anti-ice. But the wing anti-ice is on along with the nacelle anti-ice, fuel heaters, and window heaters. So I am confused why I get this warning when all the systems are already on. I don't know what to do and I always end up crashing as a result. Does anyone else experience this? If so, what should I do when this happens?

Also, on short flights (when I am not airborne long enough to get the anti-ice problem) I have trouble during the landing part. For some reason, I lose the ability to control the yoke and the throttles after I turn off the autopilot. Does anyone know why that is?

Any help anyone can give me on this will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you. I will try the ILS approach for landings.

As for the anti-ice thing, well at least now I know I am not the only one who experiences that. Hopefully there is someone on this forum that knows a solution to it.

Have now taken a flight from Vienna/Austria (LOWW) to Kalamata/Greece (LGKL) on FL350 with out any problems.
Only point that i find is that the windshield heater has two positions : LOW and HI.
But i think this doesn't bring a aircraft in a condition to crash if you set it to LOW.

FG 2020.4 with B707 from FGAddon-trunk.

PS: strange thing … the DME doesnt work allways.
I had a DME reading after take off to the first VOR.
On the important part, the landing on Kalamata i havn't a DME.
I have looked into /istrumentation/dme/ and all works well, but the display in cockpit shows nothing.

Well, I tried that by flying with the window heat on low. It didn't work and about 1 hour and 20 minutes into the flight I got the wing ice warning and my plane lost control :(

Well, thank you for your help. I have talked to four people about this now, both here and offsite. It seems that I am not the only person that experiences this as all four other people said they also experience weird anti-ice warnings after 1 or 2 hours of flying that results in them losing engines and control. Since this seems to happen only with the B707 and no one seems to know what to do, I think this might actually be a glitch or something with the programming for the plane. It's a real shame since the 707 has always been my favorite plane :(

Try contacting the developers. There is a link in the header of most of the 707 source files.

does the craft have random failures option? if yes, is it enabled? if yes, turn it off...
you would find this in the in-sim F10 menu over on the right in the craft's options section...

"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I always had the random failures option disabled. Really the only thing me and anyone else I have talked to can think of is that it is probably some kind of software glitch.

Update: I just tried a flight from Houston (KHOU) to Phoenix (KPHX). About 3/4 of the way there I got the anti-ice warning and lost engine power. I checked my fuel tank status and saw that Main 1 and Main 4 were empty at that point and it was engines 1 and 4 that I had lost power to. Could it really be a problem with the fuel tanks instead of the anti-ice?

Yes it could be. You have to manage the fuel tanks by your self on a 707, and if you don't do so the fuel will run out on some tanks. I think I've seen a procedure for that in the manual for cs707.

Kind regards,
Sidi

Final Update: Okay, so after further reading on how to manage the fuel tanks I realized that the only the reason I was having the anti-ice issue was because I wasn't monitoring the fuel tanks. Main tanks one and four would run dry after about an hour or so and when that happened I lost engines 1 and 4, resulting in me losing altitude and control. Being at a high altitude with less hot engine air for the anti-ice systems resulted in the anti-ice warnings sounding just seconds after losing the engines.

By learning how to monitor and manage the fuel tanks through the valves and pump switches I was able to fly from Houston (KHOU) to Washington DC (KDCA) without any issues.

Thank you everyone for your help. Now I can fly the beautiful B707 without any issues :D
