Air Racing with the Zivko Edge 540

Postby xen_steda » Sat Feb 22, 2020 7:40 pm

Hello, I recently found this really great airplane in the FG hangar:

http://wiki.flightgear.org/Zivko_Edge_540

It's a lot of fun to fly around in, I also found this link to an Air Race Addon for Flightgear:

http://wiki.flightgear.org/Red_Bull_Air_Race

It doesn't actually seem to work unfortunately, the link to the download page I mean. Does anyone know of the correct download location for this? Is this a track that can be placed anywhere? Thanks for any help with this.

Edit: the controls of this plane are a bit weird to me, is the throttle indicated by one of the dials on the instrument panel?

There is a parcours at KRTS. Though it's not made of pylons but red flags it's still fun.

Hello and thanks for the tip. How do I find the course at KRTS? It is a very nice area for flying but I don't see any red flags around.

Oopsie, my bad. I was absolutely certain this went into the scenery by now. Dunno why it didn't and I can't recall where I've got it from. But I still have the original archive:
http://beggabaur.rocks/fgfs/Reno-Air-Ra ... bjects.zip

Ideally create a new folder with a meaningful name and unpack the archive's contents with full path there.
Then add this new folder to fgfs' scenery paths before your main scenery, which most likely is your terrasync folder in $FG_HOME. On the console this would look like:
Code: Select all
fgfs --fg-scenery=path_to_new_folder --fg-scenery=path_to_main_scenery [...]

I think the launcher has an option to do this, too.

Would you mind adding them to the scenery database? I think this would be a great enrichment :)

Yes, that's why I thought it would have found its way into the official scenery by now.

Maybe it's possible to track down the original author and persuade him to upload it. Or at least get his permission to do so. This post suggest it's originated at fguk. I'll ping Mr. C., he might be able to help us out here.

I just tried the course out, that was really fun, and I also found another nice little aerobatic plane:

http://wiki.flightgear.org/Zlin_50_lx

The way I installed the course was by using the Add-ons Menu, then Adding the extracted Reno-Air-Race-Scenery-Objects folder in the area that says Additional scenery folders. Worked like a charm, the scenery is actually really nice, including usable hangars. Thanks a lot!

Edit: It would be great to be able to set these markers up anywhere to make a sort of gate. My goal is to make a nice course on the waters of Kaneohe Bay near PHNG airport in Hawaii. I think it is a perfect location :D

Got a reply from Stuart:

The Reno circuit is available on Terrasync. It was uploaded years ago by Geed.

I am not into scenery development but I cannot find the models in the database and they do not show up on the Scenemodels Map https://scenery.flightgear.org/map/?z=1 ... on=-119.88
I suppose they must have been gotten lost over the years, somehow.

The database provides some pylons for air racing (https://scenery.flightgear.org/app.php? ... &shared=10), with the Ufo you can place them anywhere you want.

Hm, I don't see anything about Reno in my scenery database logs (since 2013). Did he submit them through the forms or directly with Torsten?
At least the 2007 RB Air Race season is present in TerraSync, except for Abu Dhabi and Perth: https://scenery.flightgear.org/app.php? ... &model=182

EDIT: Abu Dhabi seems to be available through https://github.com/l0k1/ZivkoEdge/tree/ ... os/data/AI
Airports: EHAM, EHLE, KSFO
Aircraft: 747-400

Has anyone else tried out the Zivko Edge 540 that is available in the FG Hangar? It seems to need a little help or I am not flying it correctly because I have to fight to keep it from nosediving the whole time.

FDM should actually be Good, iirc it is used by the real red Bull air race Team to test the race courses.
