Can not control F-14 and F-15 with my mouse and joystick

Postby Curtis » Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:22 am

Hello,

I use flightgear 2019.1.1 on archlinux,

I notice that I can not control F-14 with mouse and joystick, the yoke moves but ailerons, trims don't move,

F-15 has the same problem, the others planes (C172P, 777, airbus etc..) don't have problem with mouse and joysticks,

F-14 and F-15 are really compatible with flightgear 2019.1.1 ?
version of F-14 : v1.8 2018-08-20

The command line I use :

Code: Select all
fgfs  --airport=lfsn --aircraft=f-14b --enable-auto-coordination   --disable-real-weather-fetch --enable-clouds  --enable-clouds3d   --bpp=32 --timeofday=noon --prop:/sim/rendering/multi-sample-buffers=true --prop:/sim/rendering/multi-samples=0 --prop:/sim/rendering/multithreading-mode=AutomaticSelection --prop:/sim/ati-viewport-hack=false --prop:/sim/sound/device-name="HDA Intel, ALC888 Analog (CARD=Intel,DEV=0)"

Do you have hydraulic pressure?
I am having the same problem. Master Caution is on, HYD PRES is illuminated on the annunciation panel and no pressure is indicated on the gauge. The yoke moves and the flap handle moves but the surfaces do not move since there is no hydraulic pressure.
Sometimes realism can be too real.
It seems this problem is limited to jbl sim. When I change models to use yasim, the hydraulic pressure is working and the surfaces move but I just don't like the flying characteristics of yasim. Also, the flaps only fully extend or retract, there are no steps.

Sounds like the recently resolved jsbsim issues - I had similar issues on the Mig 21 with the hydraulic system deciding not to work - they have since been resolved on the -next (nightly) builds - if you could check with -next would help.

How do you change the fdm to yasim for F-14 ?
By using a menu ?

I have lots of archived f-14b's. This is a cool model and I keep them on a backup drive.
I think v1.2 had both sim models available. I know v1.1 did.

I don't find v1.2 on the official git repo of F-14 :
https://github.com/Zaretto/fg-aircraft

perhaps you use a different repo, a F-14 made by a different author, I talk about the Zaretto version :

I am using Zaretto's models. These are from way back in the day. I don't know if there are any archives available online.
I have been using flightgear for over 7 years and keep copies of models on my hard drive. That's how I troubleshot the problem by using older models.
There is no way I could post one of the older models. I am on a ship at sea and we are lucky to have email. A big download would get me banned from the system.

You need F-14 / F-15 version 2019-10-17 or later (V1.10) to work with 2019.1

If you install from the default hangar this should be the version you get.

Installing the F-14 or F-15 from my github is not recommended any more - except for development testing.

Thanks Richard,

What do you mean by "installing from the default hangar" ?
If you talk about the menu "file -> hangar" it doesn't work on archlinux (I use plasma/kde as desktop with Qt5), as soon I click on this menu flightgear 2019.1 crashes

Code: Select all
QPixmap: Must construct a QGuiApplication before a QPixmap

Can you provide a direct link to this working version ?
You can also update the wiki page, in order to put the correct link for the working version of F-14/F-15, as most people may try to download the aircraft from the wiki (currently they will get the wrong version) :
http://wiki.flightgear.org/Grumman_F-14_Tomcat

I tried the v1.11.0 tag version on your github, controls (ailerons, rudder) work but now there is a new bug : after take-off the engines shutdown, as if there was no more fuel (but the fuel gauge shows there is fuel)

what version of Qt5 are you using?
do you have all of Qt installed including all of the -dev modules or do you have only parts of it installed?

i'm running FG built with the download_and_compile.sh (aka dnc) script on old kubuntu 14.04.5 with a 3rd party PPA build of Qt5.9.4 installed in my /opt and do not see this problem you describe... i modified my dnc script to add my /opt/qt dir to the dirs looked in for the necessary libs...

if i have done this properly, i have these packages installed... i do not know how they correlate to those in arch, though...
Code: Select all
qt59-meta-minimal/trusty,now 5.9.4-1basyskom1 amd64 [installed]

The normal way to get an aircraft from FGAddon is to use the launcher;
Code: Select all
fgfs --launcher
and then download from the default hangar (in the Aircraft tab). If you use the Download link on the Wiki page it should take you to the LTS (2018.3) release version.

For your convenience the latest FGAddon version (2019.x) can also be downloaded from the default hangar directly here: http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/f ... /f-14b.zip

Sounds like you had a tailstrike on takeoff; be careful not to exceed 10 degrees of pitch on rotate.

Yes it was a problem due to a tailstrike on takeoff,
after several attempts I managed to do a correct takeoff, no tailstrike, and I can fly now without problems, thanks.

I use the last version of Qt5 : 5.14.0,

archlinux is a rolling release ditribution, like gentoo, so all packages are very recent (last official version),

I think the hangar feature may not be compatible with the last version of Qt5 (5.14.0).

Glad you're up and flying now.

I can't really advise about Linux related stuff as I don't use it; but I'd expect the Launcher to work on the latest version of Qt5 - but also I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

AFAIK the built-in launcher should work fine with FG... especially since the main active developer seems to have some deep roots into Qt ;)

in any case, if you haven't done so already, you might want to post a bug to the bug tracker (linked above the logo image at the top of every page in these forums)... very few of the core devs read these forums and spend more time on the dev mailing list and the bug tracker... if it is a valid bug, it really needs to be fixed and reporting it on the bug tracker will keep it in the list so the devs will see it...

[edit] i might be confusing you with someone else that reported a crash with the --launcher when trying to select the craft tab... if i am, ignore the above... [/edit]
