Little help flying IDG Airbus models

Postby naplesAPF » Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:40 pm

I can fly the older versions of a320 & a330 with no problem. But am having a great deal of difficulty trying to fly the IDG-a32x & 33x versions. Can fly them manually but when it comes to trying to use the IDG autopilot, and also trying to use the route manager, am at a total loss for success. Can't find any written instructions or any video instructions anywhere. Would much appreciate a little help & instruction for the IDG-a32x & Idg-a33x.

Push = give control to FMGS, managed speed, NAV (follow RM), and managed climb (not implemented yet)
Pull = Pilot's controls, speed, heading, open climb/descent (FLCH)

Biggest thing I must stress. Don't use V/S, pull ALT knob (flch) this will use speed by pitch to climb and descent. This is what you should use until we implement managed climb/descent.

When Autothrust is turned on, the power levers determine the maximum available thrust. Hence they should always be in the climb detent (if not, you will see flashing LVR CLB). If you lose an engine, MCT is demanded, so you will see LVR MCT.

Something else to know, when you setup the MCDU properly, you can use managed speed, and SRS modes. Managed speed will the correct airspeed throughout from liftoff to touchdown. SRS will hold the V2+10 speed (or V2 in go around) using pitch. SRS changes to OP CLB automatically at the acceleration altitude (default 3000).

When you takeoff, you will use MAN TOGA (or MAN FLX when MCDU setup). When you start seeing LVR CLB, then its time to reduce to climb detent, and you will see THR CLB. This LVR CLB will start to flashing at the thrust reduction altitude (default 1500).

Kind Regards,

Couple other Q. :
1.) Should the LVR CLB be constantly flashing while in flight, - Managed modes on, AP is on & speed at cruze speed?
2.) Auto brake button is clicked on but doesn't stop plane.

No, it shouldn't be - set your thrust lever to climb as otherwise autothrust will limit maximum thrust to the equivalent thrust from the thrust lever :)

For the second, not sure... Throttle was idle, right?
