what new release are you speaking of? METAR should be working in the new code... no hacks or proxies needed...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

To specify it more clearly : 2018.3.2 (and earlier) have a bug with live METAR due to a change in the external weather source. In 2019.1.1 (currently a release candidate, a test version before release), this bug has been fixed. You can download it here, but be aware that you still might encounter other bugs because it is not yet officially released.

If you're on Linux and want to keep using release 20183.2 here is a workaround (web proxy): ... -2018-3-31

No need to use proxy or any web server at all, just edit fgfs using hex editor, viewtopic.php?f=25&t=35320&start=45#p344516
