Hello guys, I´m new at this forum and have the same problem with the META data. For win10 i have download the FG 2018.3.2 and copy the fgfs.exe file the other location where FG 2018.3.1 is installed. But I don´t receive any META data information. What can I do to receive the inforamtions and see the clouds. Thanks in advance.

This has already been fixed upstream in commit 2fdc24c1097955c5d2c88a9cc0be66069b22eebe as far as I can see: in the next FlightGear version it will be resolved. Meanwhile, you can download a patched fgfs.exe from: http://www.fguk.eu/index.php/hangar/dow ... g-2018-3-2

Also notice this warning:
enrogue wrote in Thu Feb 07, 2019 1:06 pm:If you're downloading the Win 10 bin zip from FGUK, you'll need an existing 2018.3.2 install, then extract *only* fgfs.exe from the zip file & place it in your flightgear bin directory (back up the original fgfs.exe by renaming it first)

Apologies but the bin wasn't meant to be distributed just yet - I hadn't fully tested it on a new install

Make sure you re-download the correct FlightGear once this issue is resolved in a new version ;)

Fixed for Windows 10 version. What about Ubuntu version? It doesn't really matter to me. I've hacked the code and mine is working, but others not so tech savvy have problems with my hack.

Linux Version can also be patched easily.

The main program is named fgfs. In my case its located under /usr/bin/fgfs

use hexeditor (like ghex) to search for

Code: Select all
http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/

(as written earlier http://t will be enough here...)

and replace it with

Code: Select all
http://mgouin.appspot.com/fg?icao-station-identifier-name1=

(Thanks for creating the server behind the link!)

In my case it was found at position D4B8F0 (FG 2018.3.1, 64 Bit)

Open flightgear and enjoy flying with metar again ;)

Again make sure you restore your ordinary flightgear once its fixed upstream (i.e. a new version -- 2018.3.3? is created) --> this will avoid any confusion in the future.

@LH-1701: Why don't you post your executable online for others with your version?

I'd post mine, but I use my own server, where the code that link you posted came from.

The FGUK/enrouge fix is functional if you take only FGFS.exe out of the 2018.3.2-msvc141-64-bin.zip as enrouge suggested and don't touch the rest of of the dll's etc. You'll need to restore the BIN directory using the original 2018.3.2 install if you overwrote them with zipped files and didn't make backups.

beyond all the problem. Enter the METAR manually during the takeoff and landing, has forced me not to delegate both the weather to the simulator and really understand what the variables are. The METAR is always interesting to learn.

The same can take advantage of the problem to learn and forget about it.

Simple solutions :o :o :o

I will try second patch and if it will work, upload them to my git.

EDIT :
Second no-python patch working too. I created new repo in my Git for patch, You can find it on https://github.com/BAWV12/FGFS201831-METAR-patch. There are 2 branches :
- MASTER - it is original SurferTim's solution with python redirector
- No-Python - it is mathieugouin's solution without python redirector

Usage :
1. Backup Your original fgfs.exe
2. Download this package, extract fgfs.exe and overwrite original one
3. Set EXECUTE permission on this new file
4. Run Terminal and use command python3 metar.py. This step is not need when use No-Python branch
5. Start FGFS and enjoy

Tested only with FGFS 2018.3.1 on LUbuntu 18.04. Other releases are not supported.
All credits and big thanks to SurferTim and mathieugouin

I used this method to patch macOS using HexFiend and it works!
Open the
Code: Select all
/Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/MacOS/fgfs
file with HexFiend (or similar hex editor). Did a search and replace as suggested above and I'm happy again. Thanks!

Hi,

For those people in areas that don't have access to Google(mainly in China I guess), I took V12's solution online as an alternative:

http://fgprc.org:8083/////data/observat ... /stations/

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Sidi

EDIT: I just realized that I forgot to put the port number in the link, sorry for the confusion!
