Two reasons for this: On a normal VATSIM day, there is no need to control vertical separation that much, and most pilots don't know the phraseology.
It is however useful during busy events such as Copenhagen Live where we had +500 movements over 15hrs, where I tried using the mentioned phraseology while I had my turn on Copenhagen Control(EKDK_CTR) As taught by previous experience, few pilots understood, further they could not even understand "expedite descent" so I gave up and I use it only when I see fellow ATC flying.

I guess most pilots already have a problem with descending in the first place :D. At well known airports like EHAM and EDDF I most of the time keep a continious descend, because I know what the ATC will do. Do you still control on VATSIM? I fly quite a lot to Copenhagen (and further to the rest of Scandinavia).

That is the perfect example of why RNAV was invented.

continous descent:
During my last A320 cockpit simulator session the supervising (real life Airbus pilot) instructor told me that e.g. at EGLL continous descent is mandatory for noise abatement. In case you level off somewhere before GS your company will receive a severe fine for that...So, V/S descent seems to be the usual method the nearer you come to ground. In VATSIM controllers often want you to "be levelled at" waypoint xyz.

ps: nice to hear other FG guys are active on VATSIM too!

Absolutely! Next scheduled session is Tuesday 13th where I'm assigned EKDK_CTR in support of EKCH_TWR checkout. I occasionally hop online randomly as well when time permits (usually multitasking and working on FG 3D models when there's little traffic)

@SVW, same for EHAM when the night RNAV approaches are in effect. (However during the day aircraft are levelled off at FL45 for a long time depending which runway config is used.

@CaptB, probably will fly to Kastrup on the 13th then :D. My callsign is usually DLH208J, but sometimes WS208J.

Off topic I know, but since some of you were interested... That TWR checkout at VATSIM 13.01.2018, it was moved from 1800Z to 1900Z in case someone was planning on taking FG for a flight.

How do I manage the speed with the autopilot? I tried the autothrottle, but it didn't work. Additionally, on final approach, I can't idle my throttles, they go full on but the throttle position is all the way down. I had to shut down the engines and complete an engine-out landing.

Help?

For the going full, you probably got near stalling, so ALPHA Floor activates. Once your alpha is safe again, it goes to TOGA LK, then you have to turn the autothrottle off, then you can switch it on again.

In Airbus, if the A/THR is on, the throttles control the maximum allowed A/THR. So, you need to leave them in the CL detent. (About 60-70% of your real throttle) Hence, the LVR CLB message when it isn't, and is supposed to be.

So when arming auto throttle, the throttle has to be at around 60 to 70%?

I don't know what you are talking about.

60-70% puts it into the climb detent, so that is the limit (climb) for that part.

I guess the question is how do I change from thrust to speed mode? And how do I change it to follow my FPL. Like make the input dashes.

Push the knobs for managed.

If all FDs/APs are off, its in SPEED mode, or if the AP/FD is not with pitch controlling the speed, then it will be in Speed mode. Keep in mind this only applies with the A/THR engaged. If you keep your throttle too low, the A/THR won't go above the blue little circle.
