Cessna 172p tutorial problem

Postby camileck » Mon Jul 31, 2017 10:28 pm

Hello all, I experience problem with taxiing tutorial at LELL. Tutorial description at the beginning says that this will be about taxiing from hangar to runway threshold, then it wants to approach to taxi way T leading to the runway but tutorial actually starts with aircraft on the runway, therefore it seems to be impossible to go to next step (get on the taxi way). Has anybody ran into similar problem?

have you selected a parking position when you select your starting location? i haven't tried the tutorials, though...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hum, interesting. It appears that the taxing tutorial is geared for a specific airport. It was probably supposed to be changed every time there is a new "default" airport with each version of FlightGear. Instead it would be wise to make the tutorial a little more generic, one that will fit with most any airport so long as you start from a parking position and not on the runway.

I would suggest you start from any "parking" position and then you should be able to follow along, exchanging specific maneuvers with generic ones that fit your current taxiway.

The tutorial system should relocate you to the correct airport and parking position automatically when it starts.

I will take a look and see if something has broken.

@wkitty42, @wlbragg, thank you so much, your suggestions worked perfectly, I was able to complete tutorial after starting from parking position (it didn't work with 1st position, but when I selected position a bit further from rwy threshold it worked fine)!
@stuart, please let me know if you need any help or more details, it would be great if this issue could be solved, from my experience I can say that newbies may give up on the game after bumping into such problem

I took a look at taxiing tutorial xml file. As far as I can see it is nothing here about parking position but it definitely points out to certain runway but of course I may be wrong.

Code: Select all
  <presets>
        <airport-id>LELL</airport-id>
        <on-ground>1</on-ground>
        <runway>13</runway>
        <altitude-ft>-9999</altitude-ft>
        <latitude-deg>41.52158426</latitude-deg>
        <longitude-deg>2.100607724</longitude-deg>
        <heading-deg>40</heading-deg>
        <airspeed-kt>0</airspeed-kt>
        <glideslope-deg>0</glideslope-deg>
        <offset-azimuth-deg>0</offset-azimuth-deg>
        <offset-distance-nm>0</offset-distance-nm>
    </presets>
