Cessna 172sp aircraft not moving

Postby Mjk6035 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 5:56 am

I downloaded and installed the latest version of flightgear
On a Windows 10 computer. The installation was successful.

When I start the Cessna 172sp aircraft release the parking brake, tie down ropes etc and apply full throttle the aircraft does not move

It was working the first time I ran it after installation.

I have not made any changes to the configuration.

Thanks in advance for any tips

You're sure you removed all of 'etc', i.e. the checklist has all items green?

Yes
In the checklist the control lock is shown as locked. How to unlock that?

Thanks in advance

control lock? is that the lock on the yoke? if so, you should be able to click it... it is on the left behind the yoke covering the lower half of the tachometer... alternatively, use the F10 menu, select the Cessna sub-menu and then Aircraft Options... the first option under Allow Securing Aircraft is the one you want...

the control lock should have been removed before testing the ailerons and elevators during the walk around inspection... especially since it prevents the yoke from moving at all... use CTRL-C to see the clickable objects... they'll be outlined in yellow... CTRL-C to turn them off again...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Control lock doesn't stop the aircraft from rolling :)

Try clicking your brakes a few times, sometimes FGFS brakes get stuck.

What happens if you give it full throttle and then hit ctrl+u?

It should start falling from 1000ftAGL, try pointing nose down and gain control.

Where are you spawning the aircraft at, which airport?

EDIT: Where did you get the 172sp? Or do you mean the C172P?

When I press CTRL + U the aircraft appears to be falling from 1000 FT AGL

I m starting from OMDB, Dubai international on the active runway

I meant 172P (Default aircraft in the flightgear package)

Were you able to get control of the aircraft after pressing ctrl+u? What I was looking for is to see if you could get control and fly it or if it was broken and wouldn't move no matter what. So try the following and let me know what it does.

1. "Aircraft Options" un-check "Damage"
2. Autostart
3. Full throttle
4. ctrl-u
5. Point nose down into a dive until you gain enough control to level out and fly the aircraft.
6. If all the above is successful try landing at the nearest airport that is not OMDB and see what happens.

If you find you need more AGL to gain control hit ctrl-u a couple times, you get +1000AGL each time.

In the mean time I am trying OMDB to make sure it isn't something wrong with the material.

Well it's not OMDB.

Are you sure you have the brakes off and no tie-downs or chocks installed.

You might try to disable the "Secure Aircraft" check box in the "Aircraft Options" menu.

No brakes or chocks set.

I successfully regained control of the aircraft at around 6000 AGL (After pressing CTRL + U )

The aircraft was responding to my inputs (Keyboard)

What happens if you land, are you wheels free?

Also, if you haven't already, you might try the different gear change-outs and see if you get movement with any of them, including pontoons with and without gear.

i was just thinking about a possible stupid question... that being if he has pontoons selected or if maybe he has floats selected and has the gear retracted...

You should be able to move on a hard surface even with the pontoons and no gear.

@Mjk6035,

Also I was going to ask you if you tried any other aircraft, specifically the YASim and JSBSim version of the J3Cub?
