Version 2016.4.4.-cannot get auto-coordination to work

Postby NY29D » Fri Feb 24, 2017 9:20 am

I just upgraded from version 2.4.0 to 2016.4.4. But now I am having a problem with the new version. I cannot get auto-coordination for automatic coordination between the ailerons and rudder with the keyboard controls to work. On the 2.4.0 version there was a tick box for enabling the option but I see no such option here. How do I enable it on 2016.4.4? I have tried with some online references but it has not worked even following directions. I could use some guidance as no matter what, auto-coordination just will not work and I have no idea how to work it against my keyboard controls. Thank you. :?:

Try this:

Go to the 'Settings' page of the launcher.
Cut and paste "--enable-auto-coordination" (without the quote marks) into the 'Additional Options' window.

Tried that, wouldn't work. Either that or I'm not doing something right. You tell me bro.

Which Operating system are you using? Perhaps someone who uses the same can help you.

Windows 10 Home, on a Toshiba Satellite L505 laptop. Used to use FlightGear version 2.4.0 as it always worked best for me and the autopilot was not unstable. Also on that version of FlightGear it had a check option for enabling auto-coordination and when it was active I could fly from the arrow keys on my keyboard. Seems I can no longer do so and when I did as directed in the last post it still seemed auto-coordination was not activated or it was not working from the arrow keys.

As you can see, I'm a Mac user so I can only make general suggestions which should work on all OSs.

Can you plug in a mouse to your lap top? Mouse control is better than keyboard control. I flew via mouse for ages before I even knew about auto-coordination.

Without auto-coordination fixed wing aircraft were still usable, and helicopters flights are much easier if auto-coordination is disabled.

Eventually I bought a joystick, but I know various reasons for some FGers not having them.

Cheers,

Vic

I see 2017.1.1 is released today, perhaps that is worth a try.

I have a wireless mouse attached to my laptop in place of my touchpad mouse.

I have a wireless mouse
Ditto. Can you not try using it to control your aircraft? Just hit your tab key until you see the '+', then you have mouse control.

Did that. Switched to the mouse and even with the mouse I have aileron control but the rudder will not respond to my commands and the command setting you gave me to engage the auto-coordination in the additional settings area doesn't seem to take. Oh, for the note, I upgraded again today to the newest version of FlightGear that was released. I may downgrade if it doesn't work out soon.

I'm not am expert at altering data from the standard, but there is a thread somewhere in the FG forums which tells you how to change a couple of entries in the keyboard files to move the rudder controls to another couple of keys which are more usable. Perhaps that might be worth a try.

Can you check whether /controls/flight/auto-coordination is set to true when you use that command (you can use the property browser for that)? Just to make sure you entered it correctly and the command is correctly parsed. If that is true we continue troubleshooting from there.

I can understand your frustration, but please do not downgrade. With a bit of time to troubleshoot this we can either present you a solution, or make sure future versions of FlightGear don't have the same issue (if there's a bug). You're help is crucial for that and very much appreciated.

I used the command copied from another user who tried to help me earlier and when done I did as you suggested and the Internal Properties said I was showing a status of False on Auto-Coordination under controls/flight/auto-coordination. Man Version 2.4.0 was old but NEVER had this big a problem with that issue. I'll await anything else.

Since "/controls/flight/auto-coordination" is a boolean (and is either true or false/1 or 0) you should be able to toggle it in the property browser by either marking that property and set it to 1 (you will need to hit the Enter key two times) or by Ctrl-clicking it.
