AJ-37 A/A update?

Postby dilbert » Mon Feb 13, 2017 5:52 pm

2016.4.4 WIN 10 Intel I3 Nvidia GEforce 210

Prior to the most recent update the AJ-37 Air to Air worked flawlessly. Now with armament set for air to air, mode to red, a pylon number selected, master arm on, target selected and in range, key "e" fires the cannon, rather than rockets.
Is this change intentional; and, if so, is there now a new and independent trigger for firing the rockets? Appreciate any help.

It sounds like you have the cannon pods selected instead of the rocket pods. Have you tried without cannon pods? What is the selected armament showing up as on the HUD? (If you could screenshot the HUD and post it here that'd be nice too)

Thanks Pinto.
You nailed it. I still have the old version on one machine. When you select A/A using it, the top of screen flashes 4Rb99, 2 RB71, 60 flares, and 146 cannon rounds. The post update version flashes 2 m55 cannon pods, 2RB-24J Sidewinders, and 60 flares. Think I tried pylon 1 and 6, which must have been fitted with cannon pods. Is there a way to switch back to the straight rocket load on the pylons with separate cannon, if desired ? Thanks again for the help.

The AJ-37 and the AJS-37 are the ground/sea attack variants of the Viggen (with the AJS being newer), and do not have an integrated gun, as well as having very limited A/A capability (RB-24's and RB-05A's - the RB-05A's are meant for A/G, but can do very limited A/A against slow targets). The JA-37 is the fighter variant which has an integrated cannon, and very limited A/G capability (M70 rockets).

You can equip each pylon individually through the Equipment -> Fuel and Stores menu, and you can equip every pylon with rockets other than the outside 2 stations. If you're in the AJ(S)-37 and want cannons as well, you'll need to equip a cannon pod. You can also equip armament on the center station in lieu of a drop tank.

And no problem regarding the help. I've got countless hours flying in and working on this plane, so getting to help others is fun. Hopefully I can carve out some time to finally get that new navigation panel on the right side coded properly - I've been sitting on that for about a year now. ;)

Ah yes, when I switched pylons got rockets. Thanks again for the help. I've been confused about JA37 versus AJ37. Appreciate that clarification. Will try loading individual pylons, thanks to your
directions regarding same. Cheers & Best Regards.

P.S. What was somewhat confusing was that the AJ installed as an update to the JA. Seems like the JA might also have been retained, since it is a different version . Remedied it for myself by adding a retained copy of the JA to my own hangar. Thanks again for the help.

If it is any help "A" is for "attack" (same in Swedish and English), "J" is for "jakt" (literally "hunting") and "S" is for "spaning" (literally "surveillance" and "reconnaissance"). I would guess that "attack" is the easiest to remember.

Some other versions was "SH" for "spaning hav" (literally "reconnaissance, sea", "SF" for "spaning foto" (literally "reconnaissance, photographic") and "Sk" for "skol" (literally "school"). There was also for a short period an Sk 37E version where "E" most probably was for "elektronisk krigföring" (literally "electronic warfare") used as an jammer etc. when training fighter pilots. The instructor pilot in the backseat was replace with an electronic warfare specialist.

Toward the end of Viggen's operatinal life there was upgrades to some versions to cover more roles so there was for example "AJSH".

Thanks, Johan.
Followed the arrows far enough right and found the JA. Glad it was retained, as like both verions. Cheers

As mentioned above, think it would have been nice to have added the AJ; but also kept the JA in the add-on hangar, since the AJ is a different version. Added a retained JA copy to my hangar, liking both.

If you use the build in launcher, just click on the arrow indicated by the red arrow below: (then you will see you have all 3 variants of the Saab 37 in same package)
