F-16 CJ Help

Postby randomperson123 » Tue Dec 27, 2016 11:49 pm

I usually use an f-16 fighting falcon regular, but I decided to try out FGUK's more updated f-16 CJ. But I can't seem to get it off the ground  . parking brakes off(obviously), and I think throttle is working. Help!

More updated? Certainly that's far from true in regards to aerodynamics and flight control system.

As far as I know, the FGUK version is YaSim-based... In contrast, the FGAddon version is a high-fidelity JSBSim FDM - last time I checked with TONS (!) of aero data tables worked in. With that amount of input, the flight dynamics blows YaSim clean out of the water (which isn't very good in the transonic regime in the first place because it really has no good modeling of wave drag etc...)

Anyway - while you see FGUK folks around here regularly, you'll probably get a faster answer in their own forum when it's about their aircraft.

Silly question, but did you start the engine?

yep, I turned on the engines. its kinda embarrassing. I've flown 30+ different aircraft in Flightgear, but this one won't fly  . For the updated version, I meant that this one has more 'sophisticated' things like you can load it up with missiles and stuff, even if you can't fire them. Also, it has a (slightly) better current HUD, but I have heard the HUD is still in dev. It also seems to have better exterior textures. Also, here is an image comparison.

Just tested the current one and it starts and flies just fine.
Where did you download it from?
And what Flightgear version are you running?

You do know that the F-16C and the F-16A actually have a different HUD, right?

I meant that this one has more 'sophisticated' things like you can load it up with missiles and stuff, even if you can't fire them

I guess we use the word 'sophisticated' in a very different way...

Having seen a fair share of F-16 cockpit screenshots, I'd certainly go with the left one... (if my memory doesn't deceive me, the C actually has a broader HUD frame, and I know only monochrome MFDs in the plane - but maybe I'm just wrong here for the more modern variants...)

Just wondering, isn't the CJ Bombable compatible? I don't think the regular one is.

No, the official F-16 in FGAddon does not have bombable support (yet).

FGUK doesn't use Bombable so no.
If you want to deal with missiles/bombs/damage/etc. then I'd suggest you to wait for next improvements of the "regular" one.

aww... is there anyone out there that could bombable mod the f-16? It would be epic.

There's talk of maybe OPRF-ifying the not-CJ version, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

yea... is there any aircraft that work with dogfighting over MP other than the included ones? If there are any jets that would be cool.

OPRF doesn't use bombable, but we have the F-14, F-15, Saab 37 Viggen, Mirage 2000, Typhoon, and a MiG-21bis (work in progress, but still able to be used). All these are capable of MP dogfighting (again, not bombable - we use a different system).

e: we have 27 planes (including variants) capable of shooting down and/or being shot down. This includes AWACS, the A-10, the SR-71, etc. We also have AI assets such as ground- and sea-based SAM launchers that aren't scenario based and are shared over MP.

e2: an AI fighter is in the works, but progress is slow due to other commitments.
