And once again .... AMD vs. Intel

Postby Delta5142 » Thu Sep 15, 2022 6:58 pm

Sorry if this question has been brought up on other threads, but the ones I have read haven't really given straight answers. Right now, the Ryzen 5 5000 series processors are on sale below $190 USD where I live, and the i5 10-11 series are around the same price. So the question lies, which should I go for? I've been told many times on the forums that intel processors will run better, but in this case, I'm getting a way better CPU for around the same price, so just how much worse will it run?

Thanks,

In general, Intel's i5 gen 10 and higher are faster than Ryzen 5 5xxx series. My choice is Intel, for example i5-12600, if possible, unlocked.

I think the best would be really to buy that 190$ CPU with a one-month give-back guarantee, try it out and then decide if it is good enough.

Because there isn't one universal answer and recommendations will heavily depend on a particular use case.

Are you going to use software which makes heavy use of multithreading? If yes, then go for high core count (and probably all cores of the same performance) and keep an eye on enough memory bandwidth to keep those cores saturated.

Are you going for a highest performance of a single threaded app? Then look at benchmarks and pick among the best in single core performance... https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

It is all a compromise..
