Look in the property tree and make sure that:
'/instrumentation/nav/audible' is 'true'
'/instrumentation/nav/ident' is 'true'
'/instrumentation/nav/volume' is '1.0'

Some are, some not.
But '/instumentation/nav[#]/*' is normally a navigation radio supported by FG.
Also '/instumentation/comm[#]/*' is normally a communication radio supported by FG.
But it can be that a aircraft developer add some properties, so it must not all properties that you can see are from FG directly.
The three properties i mentioned are standard out of FG.
In your case, it was 'volume'. Maybe there is a volume knob in the 3d cockpit to turn up the volume?

There was a volume control and it appeared to switch on but it still didn't work. Thanks to you it now does. I had a similar issue with the Navion so I checked the settings and again the volume needed resetting, now it works.

The NAV radio 1 on the Navion (KX165) has a volume knob below the display.
You can turn it up or down with the mouse wheel.
If you turn it full left, the radio is OFF.

The NAV radio 2 on the Navion (KNS80) has also a volume knob below the display (the little knob).
You can turn it up or down with the mouse wheel.
To enable and disable the audible ident code, click the knob with the left mouse button while you holding the 'Shift' key.
The ident is on if the knob is out.
