Logitech Wingman Force

Postby wlbragg » Sat Jun 22, 2019 7:03 am

I came across a Logitech Wingman Force usb/serial joystick my kids had from years ago and revisited trying to hook it up. I had tried it previously on my Windows partition and never got it to work. I've been on Linux now for a few years and decided to try it out and see if Linux recognized it. To my utter amazement Linux not only recognized it but it actually works in FG without havening to do much of anything except plugging it in. I have never used a joystick with FG and know next to nothing about it. What I am really interested in is whether or not the force feedback will work. Is there any extra setup or configuration needed to get the force feedback to work?

Last time I've tried it was very rudimentary, though. Do not expect too much.

I am quite sure that few if any aircraft designers have had much thought about control forces though. Force feedback joysticks did not really get mainstream and seem to be relatively rare.

That said, and given the flexibility of FlightGear, it should be possible to do a lot of interesting things anyway. :)

Thanks FlugHund,

I was able to get it partially working. The test works outside of FG. FG appears to connect, but I am getting some errors. The test in FG doesn't work.

Looks like another permission problem, but I am unsure what needs permission. It is FG to socket using tcp and the socket is communicating with an app called fg-haptics.
