RAM upgrade

Postby Clive2670 » Fri Nov 24, 2017 8:55 pm

See my specs in my signature box, I have just purchased the laptop I've been running F/G on for the last three years (As I was renting it) It currently has 6Gb onboard RAM which I can expand to 16Gb do you think this will help my FPS any as my RAM with O/S and all it's services and F/G running is at around 70% usage? Many thanks Clive

If your not hitting your swapfile then no. If you use some of the extra ram to make a ram drive and put FG in it you might see some read write improvements. You could accomplish the later investing in a SSD (solid state drive). They are relatively cheap and you can't go back to using your computer without one once you've used one.

i would add the RAM anyway... more memory is always a GoodThing<tm>... depending on where your system is bottle-necked, it may or may not help with FPS in FG...

"Why not?" said Gurder.

I agree in general with wkitty42. More memory usually just plain helps! If you can get a better graphics card (depending on what you already have), that might be the best bang for the buck.

No i can't do the graphics card as it's a laptop and it is intergrated (Dedicated) sadly. But will upgrade memory anyway as more memory is never a bad thing I suppose!

UPDATE: Upgraded RAM to 16Gb and for anyones information this has helped a great deal, it has stabilised the FPS to a steady 18FPS on the 777-*** my CPU/GPU fan rarely cuts in now as, CPU usage is hovering around 15% on all four cores, RAM usage NEVER goes above 25% now. So in short the extra 10Gb of RAM on top of what I did have has make a BIG difference
