Hyperlag help me

Postby SomeoneIsSad » Wed Nov 08, 2017 8:25 pm

Hi, i installed FlightGear a few minutes ago and I don't know ANYTHING about it.

My problem is that FlightGear lags extremly, maximum 3-4 frames.
I am not in multiplayer
My specs are:
Windows 8.1, CPU: Celeron N2840 @ dual-core 2.16 GHz, GPU: Intel HD graphics 3000 mobile, RAM:4gb, 500GB HDD.

Please don't come saying "But hey you need GGRFGH.HFHEGFSHE.GFEHROSGENRSDKDR2000 system accelarator on integrated graphics"
Please just say the DIRECT answer. I really want to play this game and you are supposed to help me.

If needed any information ask

If this problem will be resolved ill hug all of flightgear and its members...

Ahhh good old "intergrated graphics" raising it's ugly head again!!! FYI I have a "dedicated" AMD Radeon R7-M260 and I sometimes struggle, Make sure your shaders are set low / off and you might get a few more FPS, Also download and install Game fire at: https://www.smartpcutilities.com/gamefire.html This will turn off a lot of stuff within Windows and free up much needed RAM, which should help get a few more FPS, Also in task manager right click F/G scroll down to "Go to details" then "set priority" and select "realtime" and accept when the warning box comes up, this may help you as it does me. Doing these should help your FPS a little. Hoipe this helps

@Clive: Could you add this information to the above wiki page? A lot of future FG users would benefit from that info.

Cheers,
Edward

Cheers, it looks good. The more hands we have for helping to improve the wiki, even in the smallest way, the better. Oh, could you also change all instances of "I" to the third person though? That is the wiki convention.

Cheers,
Edward

Caution: changing priority may have unwanted effects. It made my FlightGear run faster at the expense of a laggy mouse. If you use real-time priority people with weak CPUS may find that FlightGear takes up the whole of the CPU not leaving any cycles for anything else. In fact, it may completely ruin your system with **no** way to turn the option off except rebooting in safe mode, since the taskmanager doesn't run in "realtime"!

Just what I'm reading on the internet...
TLDR: careful with that option.

Windows 8.1, CPU: Celeron N2840 @ dual-core 2.16 GHz, GPU: Intel HD graphics 3000 mobile, RAM:4gb, 256GB HDD.

I had Celeron with windows 7 and there is no way to get out of the hyperlag. Had to move to GNU/linux to get it run over performance vs quality profile in FG config with 3D clouds. Getting from 5fps to 16 fps, avoiding laggy areas like central Europe in time neglecting others aircraft models . Being linux hot on that laptops will long for ~3 years.
Now I'm burning the second laptop twin model with celeron which is an amazing Microshit. I practice custom holes and I have opened cowl flaps for longer operation.

No other way to do it.

I have 2016.3.1 installed on an old Dell Inspiron 3531 laptop with Celeron N2830 2.16 MHZ , Intel on board graphics, 4 GB ram, running WIN 10. While no race horse, it runs Flightgear OK. After reading your post I had no problem with line-up or controls landing the A6 on one of my clone carriers.

View>Rendering settings are all default :
Use point sprites is checked. Pylons and power lines, detailed roads and railways, and buildings are all disabled.
Random scenery is enabled. Vegetation is medium density, Vegetation Shadows are disabled. Scenery objects are enabled.Terrain Texture is Scenery Specific. Custom settings unchecked. Performance/quality slidebar about 20%.
Particles checked. 3D clouds not checked. Cloud Density slidebar about 20%. Cloud Visibility Range 0.
Atmospheric Light Scattering unchecked.

In settings Renderer is Default and Anti-aliasing is off.

On my machine, the only things listed in the start menu are Programs and Internet Explorer. As far as Apps are concerned,
everything is unpinned except Wordpad and Internet Explorer. ( I can click on the news or any other app when I want to use them)

It sounds to me, based on your description of scenery, that you don't have the best internet connection.
My machine downloads Terrasync very slowly. When starting, it may take 5 to 7 minutes in a high density area.
Fortunately, once Terrasync has been previously loaded in a particular area, and stored on the HD,
Automatic Scenery Downloading can be turned off, and the scenery rapidly loads from the HD. It also flies better, avoiding some of the problems you have described.
Hope this helps. Best Regards and Welcome.

P.S. Flew F14 from KFSO with "Download scenery automatically" on . Had poor frame rate and flew badly. Task manager showed use of 100% CPU and
80 % memory. Then flew with "Download scenery automatically" off. CPU use was 64% and memory 80%. Flew much better. Not the best over heaviest scenery areas, but flyable. Better over the ocean. So, it appears that unpinning a lot of unnecessary apps from start, especially Cortana, and operating with automatic
scenery downloading off are crucial to unburdening the CPU. The A6 at KPNA flew pretty well.
