everything? all the craft (600+ IIRC) available from FGAddon as well as all the scenery for the entire world??
for all the aircraft, i download them (daily most of the time when i build new updated binaries) with this following snippet... this pulls the very latest of the craft... since i run on the bleeding edge, i also have the bleeding edge of the craft...
- Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
#
# FILENAME: updatefgaddon
# DESCRIPTION: script to update FGAddon from the official repo using SVN
#
CWD=$PWD
MYFGBASEDIR=~/flightgear-dev
MYFGADDONSDIR=$MYFGBASEDIR/fgaddon-ng
cd $MYFGADDONSDIR
svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgaddon/trunk .
cd $CWD
then i add the above fgaddon-ng directory to the addons section for additional craft in the --launcher...
for all of the scenery, you have several methods available... there's a new terramaster which uses the new API to download the scenery or you can use the new terrasync.py and pull what you like... both can pull everything for the entire world... it will take ""some time"" as the scenery for the entire world loads the scales at a measly 88.6GiB (95108410712 bytes) with its 1817944 files and 50771 subdirectories... most of the time i use this next script snippet to keep my scenery updated as above...
- Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
#
# FILENAME: pyterrasyncupdate
# DESCRIPTION: script to execute terrasync.py with a uniform set of options
#
CWD=$PWD
DEST=$HOME/myflightgear/TSScenery
~/flightgear-dev/next/flightgear/scripts/python/terrasync.py --target=$DEST --remove-orphan $@
cd $CWD
terrasync.py is available in the flightgear repo's scripts directory as noted in the path of the script in the snippet above... there is a way to have the script get only certain tiles but i just grab everything that's been updated since the last time i updated... i generally fire the above as "pyterrasyncupdate --quick"... as above with the craft, i have added this to my additional scenery path in the --launcher...
in reality, i've also changed my fgfs to download terrasync into this same directory so that i have the capability of live updating it while i'm flying but it is faster to leave terrasync off and use what i already have downloaded...
there's also an option known as terrafs where you mount the official terrasync directory as a remote directory... then you just copy everything over OR use the remote directory straight as it is if you have a fast enough connection but since you don't want to maintain a broadband connection, you'd only be interested in the copying over part... none of these terrasync download methods is going to be any faster than any other... it is just going to take time to get everything...

"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
