Map and route manager on second monitor

Postby flycanarias » Sat Nov 19, 2016 2:20 pm

Hello folks,
a question concerning multi-monitor flying, well, I want to display my Map and my route manager on a second monitor to observe my position and my distance/ ETA during flight.
Basically, the builtin route manager and map would do.
How can I do that?

Regards, flycanarias

IIRC it is not possible to open up any dialogs in any but the main window. This, again IIRC, is due to parts of the software being old enough that development of the underlying libraries (PLIB in this case) was halted ten years ago.

Have you tried Phi, the web interface? It has a moving map and flight history overlaid on OpenStreetMaps and will show your route manager route.

You can't open the Route Manager as such, but you can monitor progress in the property tree browser that it provides.

Allright, thank you!!! I can now use PHI on my second monitor. Can I also open it on my IPad? I tried to type the localhost:8080 dress into my browser, but it wasn't able to connect and therefore wasn't loading.

How can I do that?

It works on an iPad* (which is what it is written for I believe), but you need to enter the IP address of the machine running Flightgear instead of "localhost". So something like "http://192.168.1.254:8080".

* It works on anything that has a web browser.

Maybe in the future PHI could support manipulating route manager?

Yes, a great idea... Maybe it could also display the time to the next waypoint? (I usually use it to calculate my sinkrate, and don`t want to open the HUD that often)

actually, it's not too difficult to do: the whole dialog works via a few fgcommands, which are also supported using the Phi RPC layer - so all you need is a jQuery table to get/set the corresponding properties and run the fgcommands.

If you know anything about HTML5/JavaScript (jQuery) this should be straightforward to do just by referring to the route-manager.xml dialog file
