Asus 9800GT (the room heater version)!

Postby JamesPatton » Tue Nov 30, 2021 7:31 am

Now the local aerodrome is baking at the ungodly figure of 20C (68F), I'm wondering about temperatures. My video card is an Asus 9800GT which ticks over at 50C but goes as high as 75C (manual fan 100%) when under load for an extended period, say an hour . Are these temperatures in the normal range for such a card?

In general terms, having video card chip run well below 80C under prolonged load is a sign that everything is healthy.
Your card is a couple of years old and I am tempted to mention the possibility of checking/refreshing thermal paste, but on the other hand 'never touch a running system' - so just don't worry and be happy. Reconsider once you notice a notable drop in cooling performance - it will be time for a new paste and/or fan then.
