Joystick configuration problems.

Postby SP-NTX » Wed Oct 13, 2021 9:01 pm

Hi, I have have a T-Fligh-Stick-X joystick for about a year now, everything was working normally until recently, the joystick configuration GUI window has reset the bindings and is not showing the clicked buttons and axis positions, and the set axes are moving by themselves, what should I do?

Had you just updated to version 2020 3.11 when this happened. The reason I asked this question is because I have had an issue with both an Arduino board not interacting with the Calibration/assignment Tool and also a Bodna BUO836A not being seen at all. The people at Bodna did a team view link and try as he might he couldn't get the board to permanently link to FG. So has something changed that has caused the issue. Bodna say there is nothing wrong with the board and it's a software issue.

NOTE: I have used the Bodna Board a couple of years ago to do Saitek Yoke mod.

My Bodnar unit works great. Only once did I have a problem with it, and that was after a power failure.
I'm currently on FG2020.4.0. It works on FG2019.2.0 and FG2020.3.3.

I did have some conflicting settings initially. I had to disable the elevator and aileron in the Saitek yoke config.

Edit: As I recall, I was around when you did your conversion. I advised you at the time to modify the Saitek joystick file. You ignored the advice, and here we are...

You've made assumptions Tim. I am not talking about the board in my Yoke that was working fine in the Yoke, when a I sold it a couple of months ago. This was a new board I purchased last week. I hadn't attached any outputs and just plugged it in and it failed to show in the FG Config/assigning tool, which the other one did. Then Simon from Bodna did a team view event and finally got it seeing the board when when he asked me to restart it wasn't there again.

He then said he would do some further tests and this morning concluded it must be software not the hardware. I don't know which is why I am asking.

Edit: I am on version 2020.3.11 as I understood is the latest stable version. Bodna will give me a full refund on return.

Then my bad. You have the inputs that normally would be connected to a pot connected to something like a v+/2 voltage?

Just a thought...

As I said Tim, the board should show up in FG Calibration without connection other than plugging in the USB. It shows up in joy.cpl (windows tool) So it's there but not in FG which is why Simon believes it is a software issue.

OK. How Windows searches for joysticks is beyond my scope.

Whose software does the Bodnar team suspect? I won't presume. ;)

Edit: If you claim a previous Bodnar unit worked ok, but this one doesn't, what does that say to you?

I suggested that to Simon and he said it wasn't the board. He was clearly saying FG. He downloaded new firmware for the board which made no difference

From the Bodnar website under "Construction Tips"
http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php ... cts_id=204
Unused analog inputs are automatically disabled. They will appear as soon pots are connected and BU0836A is powered up. In other words, if they are not connected - you will not see them.

Edit: If this is correct, then FG is doing fine. It should not attempt to calibrate a joystick with no analog inputs.

Perhaps I am not explaining this very well. Forget the bit about pots. The board is programmed as a Joystick/gamepad and should show up in joy/cpl & FG when it is plugged in, just like any other Joystick etc. It is not doing that. Just to satisfy the point you made I attached a pot to the board and it still didn't show. Anyway it doesn't matter any more it is going back.

Do you see it in your OS list of connected joysticks? If no I'd expect it is a hardware fault.

If you mean the Windows calibration tool joy.cpl then yes. As I have said not in FG Calibration tool or in property browser/input/joystick.

@Robertfm: Did you resolve your issue? Or are you still in "The Dead Zone"?

I tried a STM32 Blue Pill programmed as a joystick, and both Ubuntu and FG2020.4.0 saw it. It wouldn't be a plug-in for the Bodnar unit because it is a 3.3v device.

As I said the board was returned. As for Bodnar not being plug & play. It was when I did the Yoke amendment and also when I added two other functions to it. Also Leo Bodna think it should be, that's how it's sold.
