Broken Airport Groundnets Report

Postby portreekid » Thu May 20, 2021 7:58 pm

There is now a live error report of all Airports with traffic. Travis now builds a usable report of all groundnets. Headers are sortable for juicy targets.

To fix any errors you can use

https://github.com/Portree-Kid/flightgear-airports

and upload to

Reason: More descriptive title to hopefully attract less posts about broken scenery ;-)

That is an interesting resource to have.

Edit: Have PMed Gijs asking him to pin it, and have added link to it on the wiki.

That's really great to have.

Due to the report i picked EDDE and remade the groundnet. In the process i noticed something strange.
According to the report there are 3268 flights at EDDE. But i only find ~10 in fgdata (next):

Code: Select all
~/flightgear/share/fgdata/AI/Traffic$ grep -R EDDE *
C/CAI.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
C/CAI.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
C/CAI.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
C/CAI.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
E/EZS.xml:<port>EDDE</port>
E/EZS.xml:<port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>
T/TAY.xml:      <port>EDDE</port>

Given that Erfurt/Weimar is a small airport i somehow doubt 3268 flights is correct.
I just wanted to mention it, feel free to ignore :-)

Confirming only 12 flights at EDDE as far as traffic files are concerned (also shown on FGAirports Statistics panel). Issue must be with the reporting tool

This is flagging airports with a single parking position, or multiple parking positions that don't intersect, but have no taxi routes etc. as "SUCCESS", should these not be flagged as "FAILED"?

That’s more or less intentional. Otherwise the other errors would disappear in the noise.

You're right there would be a lot of noise

I just created my own list of those airports, there's approximately 6000 problematic airports although the vast majority have no AI traffic so are not currently a concern.

Some inadvertently off topic posts was split off to the new topic Broken airport scenery, and the title of this topic post was renamed from Broken Airports Report to Broken Airport Groundnets Report.

Are there differences between errors identified by FG Airports and the errors identified in the Broken Airport Groundnets Report? Is there a way to get more detail about the Broken Airport Groundnets Report errors?

Yes. The airport identifiers at https://terrasync.github.io/main/ can be clicked. For example, clicking ESSA gives these errors:

Edit: Or did you mean to ask if there can be more information than that?

I hadn't realized that the reason for a "failure" would be shown by clicking the airport ICAO! I believe I've tried that in the past but, at least on my Android tablet, I have to hold down (more than click) on the ICAO until it opens a dialog box with various options, one of which is to "Open in new tab". Thank you for this info, @JohanG!

Now, when I checked many airports I've worked on that show failures, by far the majority (probably 80-90%+) indicate intersecting parkings. I'll check these out.
