General aviation AI models

Postby gooneybird » Thu Mar 29, 2018 7:38 pm

I've not had much time for FG lately but have decided to do some GA AI models when time allows.

Hopefully the first one will be coming fairly soon.

Last time I looked they were not GA aircraft ;)

Due to ongoing health problems I'm concentrating on what I want to do and not what other people expect me to do, there's less pressure this way.

Next one is slowly progressing.

Getting away from the cylinder type aircraft has made me learn a lot more about Blender :D

That wouldn't be a Tiger Moth by any chance?

Get that man a beer ;)
You can always recognise a member of the de Havilland Moth family by the shape of the tail fin.
Even nowadays there's not many small airfields in the UK without a Moth floating around somewhere.

Agreed, great modelling on the Moth. ;)

Are these models just AI or do you plan to add /allow others to make a FDM?

Thanks guys.
It's just an AI model but if someone wants to Improve it and use it as a basis for a flyable version I can supply a Blender file when it's finished.

The level of detail on this one is quite impressive. Awesome work !

Thanks.

It wasn't intended to have this much detail but it just wasn't looking right so I basically started again.
Hopefully while the poly count is on the high side for an AI model the fact it will only have about 3 objects it shouldn't have to much impact on frame rate etc.

Basic UV mapping finished, next up is artwork creation. Anyone know where I can get GPL old style instrument dials in svg format?

Love it !
For instruments as plan b I would convert a GPL png/jpg for example https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Altimeter
Inkscape's Trace bitmap function works kinda ok if your source image is precise enough (could need a bit of rework but you totally master it from what I can see)

Cheers

Thanks Ian that's given me something to start with. It wont be 100% accurate at that resolution anyway.
I've found that it's sometimes easier just to draw it using it using the picture as reference rather than than clean up a "traced" file, though like you say that depends on the quality of the original image.
