Simple XLS Traffic File Generator

Postby BecOzIcan » Tue May 07, 2013 11:55 am

G'day

I have put together a traffic file generator running on Excel for those of us Non Developers who still want to populate airports with a bit of activity.

EDIT: By default, the sheet allows you to handle 200 Aircraft and 300 Flights, per Airline. This can be extended, based on your machine capabilities (potentially slower response times).
EDIT: The Workbook handles only WEEK Repeats

The file includes 3 sheets to be filled in order
1/ Airline Details (Cover)
2/ Fleet (AirlineFleet)
3/ Flights (AirlineSchedule)

and one sheet (XML) to collect your traffic file.

Other Tabs are filled with reference IATA/ICAO tables allowing control of your entries and the creation of sane Traffic files. This worksheet does not allow you to ingest existing traffic files but I will soon start work on this functionality

Use should be self explanatory if you follow the instructions included. In case of trouble and depending of your understanding of Excel functions, you can unhide columns/rows and try to fix it or post a message here

Download is available HERE

Feedback welcome

Ian

This is well timed we are currently updating the traffic files to include the newer AI models/liveries and converting the aircraft radii to the latest figures on the wiki.

http://wiki.flightgear.org/Aircraft_radii
http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=19421
http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=14232

I have not tried it yet but it does load into Libre Office with no problems.
A nice tool and will be even better when it's able to open existing traffic files. :D

Are you doing doing any traffic files yourself, If so can let us know what ones and whether you need any new liveries for them as we are also updating many models and liveries.

Unfortunately on my Libre calc on Ubuntu 12.04LTS it locks up Libre office and I can not shut my computer down short of a hard reboot.
It gets about one third the way through loading and locks up.

Thanks for the messages. Will try to start work on Existing files ingestion next week. Fleets should be easy enough, have to put a bot more thinking into flights

@gooneybird, I am in the process of creating traffic files required for handling current movements at LFPG. Already started ALK but realized I need to update/add aircrafts & liveries as I go so it's a pretty slow process.

I couldn't find a repository for updated AI Aircrafts/Liveries and rely only on the ones available as part of FGFS' main program download, Is there a plan to set up a download page/site specifically for AI ? (Aircrafts, Liveries and Traffic)

Cheers

Please keep us updated on what models/liveries you are adding as we are replacing some of the models with newer versions, at the moment we have a new A320 and working on A330 and A340 so It may be best to avoid them until we can release them, paint kits will also be available for them.

The only other place they are available from is GIT but there is not much more there than what is available in 2.10. If you have AI stuff that you want included in the program you can send them to Durk he handles the AI side of things.

As It seems several people are now creating new traffic files It may be worth starting another topic listing who is doing what so you don't duplicate your efforts.

Good call here Gooneybird. Too bad my A332 ALK was almost complete :-)

I ll start work on the Traffic File Ingestor now. Will also try to optimize the XLS Worksheet as I understand its current size would be a problem for some users> Will keep you posted here

Just to be sure, you are aware of the scripts in https://gitorious.org/fg-ai-flightplan and https://gitorious.org/trafficgear/trafficgear ? I think it would be good to concentrate the efforts on a single system. You should definitely talk to Adrian and/or Durk.

Hey Gijs. No experience with GIT. Is there already a program in place to ingest/generate traffic files? how do I retrieve it from GIT? (Win7 machine)

Cheers

Hey Qf707,

Yep completed fully owned fleet and 19 destinations out of VCBI today. Another 13 to finish outbound. Once inbound done as well I will post a topic. More or less another week to go.

Cheers,

Thanks a lot for the files, much appreciated

Transat, China Southern and TAM are valid candidates for me as they use A330s to LFPG.

I Will put this on my Backlog (any preference for the first to deliver?)

Looking at delivering Mid June as I really want to complete my Existing Traffic File Ingestor before that ;-)

Cheers

Advice Welcome...

I just realized the file I am generating to be saved as Traffic XML in Notepad++ does not include TAB indent.
Not being a Dev, I looked up on the web and understand the only purpose of indenting is to make the code readable.

If needed/requested I will include the feature in my next release but advice on the need to do that is welcome

Cheers
