AI Aircraft models required

Postby adrian » Thu Nov 10, 2011 5:12 pm

I've compiled a little list of models which are missing from the database:

Airbus A300
Airbus A310
British Aerospace Jetstream 31
British Aerospace Jetstream 41
Boeing 787
Cessna 402
Fairchild-Dornier 328
Saab2000

Would be great if someone would create them, with or without liveries.

Airbus A310

Are you sure? I see an A310 in the database, Models -> Aircraft -> fedex310-ba.ac.

Maybe, but that's not integrated in the AI system, and I know next to nothing about 3D models. Do you know how to migrate that in the AI system so that it can accept liveries?

Well, no. Sorry if I confused. Just pointing where you could get a nice A310 model.

Well, it's still a good idea to use that model instead of creating one from scratch, I'll just have to leave the details to the 3D artists around here ;)

Just been playing with the 310 in Blender, It's definitely usable, just needs remapping for AI use.

That's great, it will spare some time :)
You know, I was checking yesterday the latest flight and airframe database and came up with some numbers (ball-park, since I still have to check and refine the data):
there are now about 5000 individual airframes in working conditions, with another 2500 requiring painting. They will be covering about 1200 airports around the world, with around 20000 daily flights.

Most of the top operators from this list are represented in our traffic, with the following notable exceptions: SkyWest, Southwest, Air Berlin,China Airlines, Emirates and RyanAir. I've sourced schedules for China Airlines and Emirates and I will add them too to our database.

Last I checked, we now need 132 liveries (not 132 airlines, but 132 model-livery combinations). However, your latest work has not yet been uploaded, so I expect this number to actually get smaller after Durk commits them. I was hoping all this traffic could make it into the next release, but we'll probably need more people doing liveries for that to happen :)

Just as a general heads up, I'm currently pushing the latest traffic patterns to git, as well as the latest AI collection. With respect to missing aircraft, up until now, we've always substituted missing models with an equivalent model that we do have. For the current missing propliners, I've substituted them with the ATR models (thanks Gooneybird for your UVmapping work). In addition to providing a list of aircraft missing, it might also be a good idea to publish the full list of aircraft needed, and our list of current substitutions.

In any case, I just tested this real quickly at EDDF, and it's getting pretty busy there!

Cheers,
Durk

Hi Durk, I'm currently analysing the list of liveries and aircraft based on the new updates, but before I add it here, we should probably clarify the status of the AmericanEagle ATR42, which in our fleet database appears simply as American. Are you going to rename the XML file to American, or should we modify the fleet entry?
Same for Aircraft/Dash8/Dash8-400-UnitedAirlines.xml which is named UnitedExpress.xml
Then there is a typo in the name of Aircraft/Bombardier-Challenger/Bombardier-Challenger-UnitedAirlines.xml which is why it appears on the list.
Same for Aircraft/Embraer-Legacy/Embraer-Legacy-UnitedAirlines.xml
Also I'd like to know if you have added or are planning to add KLM and KLC fleets, or should I just go ahead and add them myself.
Also, we've got ex Finncomm, now Flybe Nordic, which have the Finncomm name, but the livery is up to you guys.

A quick wc -l tells me we currently need 116 new liveries, not including liveries for models listed above (6-7 more).

I've added the Fairchild-Dornier 328 (prop for now only, later also JET) to the list. Durk, should we be listing all varieties, like the ATR72 and versions of the Embraers and CRJ's?

I have a Fairchild-Dornier 328 jet and the A310 waiting to be worked on.

 Sorry guys, I believe the typos are mine, That's what happens when you make a mistake then copy/paste elsewhere

Presenting the latest addition to the AI fleet, the ERJ 145.
All I need to do now is find some more liveries for it.

Do you want this named AmericanEagle or just American :?:

I just checked the fleet info and it's just named American there. Which should be fine I think, as the callsign is Eagle-Flight anyway.

I know it's not one of the required aircraft but I couldn't resist getting more practice with Blender while waiting for the A319 to be accepted
