FlightGear Map Server Not Found in TerraGearGUI

Postby Stevenj279 » Fri Jul 24, 2020 9:25 pm

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:

I've installed FlightGear (v. 2018.3.5) and downloaded the TerraGear GUI (and main program) binaries for Windows (I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, 32 Gb MEM, Core I7 processor, Nvidia GTX780m GPU).

I selected the area in the GUI for the hgt files and they downloaded fine. However, when I try to download the scenery for the bounding box I need (in the Eastern U.S.), the status continually says "Connecting to server", but the log window in the Start tab states the following:

Download of http://mapserver.flightgear.org/dlshp?l ... ax=39.0000 failed: Host mapserver.flightgear.org not found

If there is a different url for this data, what would it be and how (within the GUI?) would I point to the proper link?

Note: I already have georeferenced, high resolution GeoTiff imagery and elevation data for this area that displays fine in OSG Earth Viewer. Might it be easier to load that into scenery and use the various overlays (roads, buildings, vegetation, etc.) used by FlightGear?

Many Thanks in Advance!

Steven

The map server is no longer online. Definitely use the data that you said you have access to him place of it.

Many thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully a simple followup question: What is the methodology to use my existing GeoTiff imagery and elevation data to build the FlightGear scenery for the area? I'm assuming that I can't merely point to it using the TerraGear GUI...

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, it didn't show up in my new posts for some reason. I just happened to stumble upon it.
There is tones of help in the forum and on the wiki, but you need to search for it. Here is a couple things with a quick look back at some of my efforts in the past'

This was my effort to document a part of it because I knew I would forget how. The images are gone but it may still be of some use.

This post has a couple links in it that may help.

Again, most of the information you need is available on the forum and on the wiki if you can find it.
