Program does not open

I downloaded Flightgear 2017.2.1 on my Mac Book Pro using MAC OS Sierra V 10:12:6.
It downloaded ok but the icon of the plane in the left side is not lite up, preventing me from clicking the start button.
the other icons, do open. just not the plane icon "fly"

Check if all the needed options are set, ie: did you select an aircraft and a place to start?

The program does not open.

The program has to open in order for me to select the aircraft or place to start.
The "fly Aircraft icon" needs to light up in order for me to start the program.

That's not what you said. You said all the icons work except the "Fly" icon. We're telling you the "Fly" icon may not work until you use the other icons to set up your starting location and the aircraft you want to use.

Try clicking on the Aircraft icon and selecting an aircraft.
Then try clicking on the Location icon and selecting an airport.
Then see it you can click on the "Fly" icon.

BTW, I don't think any of the icons "light up" when you mouse over them or click on them. Unless the Mac is different from Windows and Linux in the way it handles the menu choices.

yeah, on linux, the internal --launcher has a thin white vertical bar to the left of the currently selected "icon"... they don't dim and brighten based on being "active" or not, AFAIK...

my understanding is if you clean install, start up and select the "Fly!" button, you'll start at the default airport in the default aircraft positioned on the runway... starting anywhere else on the very first start up after a fully clean install (no residual files from previous installs) indicates that either the defaults are not being read properly or there's a bug in the internal --launcher regarding first time start ups...

Have you placed the FG application in your applications folder?

I can't remember what it is, but certain things will not work if you open FG from the Desktop Icon.
