Frozen simulation but live cockpit graphics

Postby cliffe6d » Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:53 pm

This occurs with V2016.3.1, newly installed on iMac (system details below). Code is your precompiled version in dmg file. Have considerable experience with older FGFS on early Mac Pro tower. Flew it successfully for a long time.

New version on new machine starts smoothly and presents on screen with clean cockpit view. Controller is Saitek AV8R that is recognized cleanly. Use throttle handles 1 and 2 for throttle and propeller goverrnor. Handle mixture with bat switches on stick base.

Visually everything works smoothly: aileron and elevator movements in yoke; rudder movements in pedals; flap setting, (also by bat switch on stick base). But the graphics don't effect the underlying simulation model -- they're just disconnected. Views can be moved as normal, but outside views show no movement of control surfaces. In summary, controller actions are reflected correctly and smoothly in the cockpit graphics, but the simulation is disconnected. Mouse and keyboard behave as usual, but only effect cockpit graphics. Simulation is frozen. If I move from runway takeoff position and position plane 3 NM out at 1500 ft the perspective is fine, the yoke and all move but the simulation is frozen in space.

I'd be glad to help with test, and (with guidance) could do a rebuild locally from source. I'm a retired Bell Labs staff member and manager, with experience as a developer and researcher, familiar with UNIX, C, C++, Java, Python, numerical analysis (taught digital signal processing).

Sytem version & details below:

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
Running Mac OS Sierra (Version 10.2) on an iMac (27-inch,Late 2013)
- what FlightGear version do you use?
V2016.3.1

- what graphics card do you have?
NVISI FWFORCE GTX 780M 4096 MB

- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
It occurs anywhere with 172P and 182T, only models I've tried

- where did you download your aircraft/scenery from?
Flight Gear home page

- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
No

- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).
Invoked from FGFS application icon

Hi & welcome,

could you please share/post a link (pastebin) to your fgfs.log file: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Commonly_use ... s#fgfs.log

Besides, if it's not too much to ask, could you possibly prepare a short video depicting the problem ?

For starters, it would also be interesting to learn if the "ufo" aircraft is also affected - also, any animations that don't seem to be working correctly can probably be triggered manually via the Nasal console and/or property browser.

For the sake of completeness, it would also be interesting to see if you can record/play back a so called fgtape, or even replay a fgtape recorded by another user showing properly deflected controls in all views or not: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Fgtape

With your sort of professional background this should hopefully be straightforward to troubleshoot ;-)
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit
Thanks & all the best,
