✅ Starting P-51D-25-NA engine

Postby efel » Sun Jun 21, 2015 6:43 pm

hello
Watching YouTube tuto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXX-SnYtpHQ, and watching the check-list aircraft, it seems easy to get starting the engine of the P-51D Mustang! However I can't do that...! (v 3.5 FG and plane 3.4). Ideas ??? Thanks for answering

i can't find the post in the forum where i read that plane is unusable, i tried to start up like the video you posted. Because when FG finishes to load it you read on top of screen something like " exceed limit......". Simply stresses are too high, they've damaged the plane before you can start it up. I remember it run with FG 3.2. If i find the post, i'll post it here.

EDIT: it is here.

Ciao!
Yes it was running very well, and the red warning of “exceed....“ was seen too, and did not prevent him from starting and flying very well...! But I think the actual model is a little different

The problem, I believe, starts at the point when you are actually running the starter. However, if you pres ctrl-u 20 times (i.e. go up to 20000 ft)
and start gliding down at 300 +, the engine starts fine, Moreover, the pitch of the starter when gliding 300 + is much higher, telling me that the starter motor is under powered.

 You're welcome!
If you want to start on the ground, why don't you try a 200 mph headwind?

and avoid ascending to Heaven...you can download an autostart file here https://www.dropbox.com/s/d9fasqdmhgw4y8u/p51d_autostart.zip?dl=0
Unzip and dispatch...It fits well, and by hand too... the problem seems fixed

Yes, +1 efel :D .
your autostart did the trick. But sometimes the screen become totally red, until now i ain't able to take off, i'll read better the tutorial.

P.S.: Could someone upload it in the mustang github folder? The plane is unusable, in the official 3.4 download page, without tricks.

Most of the time, taking off is succeeded, at the condition to be very careful with the throttle. Another thing for me is to land: I found the plane very difficult to slow at the good speed, and landing is, almost every time, catastrophic. I'll try to go better...
PS The compas is not working

Tail isn't bouncing on the ground, is it? When you're not moving.

Every times, at the touch down, about 100kts, flaps down, the contact is very hard, and the plane is bouncing 2 or 3 times before leaving the runway
