Hello, I have downloaded the archive from (https://yer.dl.sourceforge.net/project/ ... 3-data.txz)

As shown in the screenshot, I am not sure how do I install it, do I extract the archive and put it inside /usr/share/flightgear/data ?

- OS: Arch Linux
- FG Version: 2020.3.13
- AMD Integrated, CPU: Ryzen 7 5700U
- Unable to launch the game

Yep, but you can put it into any location you like then click the "Choose folder" button in the dialog you posted a screenshot of, and choose the folder that contains for example the Nasal folder and the README file.

Same issue here on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS. The AppImage shows a popup allowing to download the txz file. Moving it into any location and choosing that folder in the popup does not help.

If I need to extract it, how do I do it? It is not a ZIP, it is not a gzip (Gnu ZIP), it is not a tar archive or zipped tar archive. So what do you need to do with this file?

Yes, it needs to be decompressed - it is a TAR archive compressed with the LZMA compression algorithm (.txz is a shortcut for .tar.xz). So you first need to decompress it with LZMA, then with TAR - but any modern graphical archive application should do this automatically, if you open the file with it.

Update: While playing around, I suspected the file to be a tar archive without compression. And indeed, this command worked for me:

tar xvf FlightGear-2020.3.19-data.txz

With that I received a folder 'fgdata'. Choosing this folder in the popup allowed me to go on.

There is a useful command line utility named 'file', which reduces the guesswork considerably, for example:
Code: Select all
$ file XR.pdf
XR.pdf: PDF document, version 1.4

$ file 8393.crt
8393.crt: PEM certificate
INOP
