FG 2020.3.2 Appimage Fails

Postby cobe571 » Wed Nov 25, 2020 1:41 pm

Hello everyone
I tried several times to use the appimage for Linux without results.
Looks like impossible to locate the data files directory (usually placed into a path like -> /home/user/.fgfs )
The button download also don't works.

Suggestions?

2020.3.3 has fixes for getting the new data files (it's on sourceforge etc) among other things, but sourceforge is giving a 503 error on downloading the data at the moment

I can get it fine from the flightgear build server though

If you have a data directory in ~/.fgfs you can manually type the path into the chooser - I just typed in .fgfs/fgdata & pressed enter & it found it fine after I had extracted it there

I downloaded FG 2020.3.2 from the official website by that link. Isn't that good? Then change it or fix it!
There's not a "fgdata" into .fgfs directory anyway

Other suggestions?

you can put the fgdata where ever you want - you just have to download it, as it's not included in the appimage.

I just checked & sourceforges 503 error is gone - you just have to download & extract the tar.bz2 & tell the launcher where you put it

ouch! only 747KB/s... this also looks like a TLS decoding problem... perhaps try using curl instead of wget?? probably same problem if both are using the same certificate store... you're not even getting a full minute of data... what flavor and version of linux are you using?

"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

sourceforge seems to have only distributed the 2020.3.3 data tarball to 1 mirror last time i looked (San Diego) so you can't get a good download speed from europe at the moment - not sure theres much we can do until it's out in more mirrors

Yes, I think so it's a TLS problem. I'm using from alot of months Debian Buster 10 (Kernel 4.19.0-12-rt-amd64 x86_64), more than UbuntuStudio. That's the perfect multimedia generic linux distro with perfect recognition of every piece of hardware in a bundle. Too much for me. I simplified and switched to Debian from netinstall and installed only what I need. Debian always worked like a charme from the day zero. I'm not using Windows 10 very much. I just upgraded to 20H0* something and reboot to Linux after a full update.

I'll wait. Thanks everyone for replies
