unmet dependencies ubuntu 20.04

Postby burdenpaul » Fri Aug 21, 2020 4:07 pm

Hi
I had an older version of Flightgear running a while ago on 19.10 of kubuntu but for an unknown reason it stopped working and I couldn't find fgfs. I'm not too concerned about that. I've upgraded to Kubuntu 20.04 and I want to reinstall flightgear. I added the respository and updated but when I use 'sudo apt-get install flightgear' I get the following error

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
flightgear : Depends: libhtsengine1 (>= 1.07) but it is not installable
Depends: libplib1 but it is not installable
Depends: libsimgearcore2020.1.1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libsimgearscene2020.1.1 but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I have run 'dpkg configure -a' followed by 'sudo apt-get install -f' but neither return any messages (errors or otherwise) so I'm not sure what could be broken.

Can anybody help please? I'm not sure what to do at this point.

That's odd, I'm pretty sure I added that package after 20.04 came out (or pretty close to release, at least). I'll recheck the dependencies this weekend.

Just to verify, you are using my PPA, correct?

Hi - Yes I've used your PPA. The line below is from /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/saiarcot895/flightgear/ubuntu/ focal main

I used the instructions from this URL..... http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/202 ... -04-18-04/

My Kubuntu/Ubuntu version is currently 20.04.1 LTS

The package dependencies look fine, and it was published after 20.04 was released. What's the output of "apt-cache policy libhtsengine1 libplib1" for you? If you have aptitude installed, if you try installing flightgear from that, what does it say?

Output from apt-cache policy is
libhtsengine1:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: (none)
Version table:
libplib1:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: (none)
Version table:

I don't have apitude installed - However when trying to install aptitude I get a message
Package aptitude is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

I don't understand that either..... other package install ok.

Hi
After doing some hunting around I found that my local repository database copy was completely out-of-date...although I don't know for how long. Standard sources had been unchecked and so had not been updated. I've corrected that now and updated. Flightgear is now installing and I can install aptitude!

I do appologise for wasting people's time.
