This means that the center of the rotor is the actual reference point that you are placing in the scenery. If you want to place a 90m version of this turbine for example, you would enter 90 into the offset field to make the center of the rotor "float" 90m above ground level.

Thanks - you learn something every day (RTFM :D :D I assumed all models would start at ground level - anyone know why you would make it like that?)

A bit of updating to do , I think!

this is like some craft models having their 0,0,0
a) at the craft's nose while others will have it
b) in the middle of the craft,
c) or maybe at the craft's CoG, or
d) some might have it in the center of the craft but at the level where the craft's main gear touch the ground...

basically, modelers are free to draw the craft how they desire... it is up to those persons placing the models into the scene to understand the model and know where its 0,0,0 point resides...

ya done good to figure out the problem, though!

FWIW: here's the files i pulled the other day in that location...

Code: Select all
myuser@mymachine:~/myflightgear/TSScenery/Objects/w010n50/w002n55$ ls -lt
total 2076

there were no updates in the Terrain folder for that tile...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Thanks, nothing like getting thrown in the deep end! :D

I've updated 6 of the turbines with changed elevation offset, so we'll see what happens.

Slightly off topc I know but the right way to draw an aircraft model is with the centre at the CoG and not the tip of the nose as otherwise over MP the aircraft will appear to turn around the nose and it looks very strange.

that's why, AFAIK, there are offsets specified in the -set files which straighten that out for proper working with FG...
