Since FG doesn't offer a Linux binary for installation, it'd depend on whether the provider of your binary has compiled FG with Qt or not - the launcher is optional.

IIRC 14.04 ships with an old version of Qt5 and hence the launcher is not supported there anymore.

From source? Certainly. Just check out the corresponding branch/tag of the SimGear and FlightGear source and build away.
If you use download&compile I think you can tell it which version you want to build (but as I don't use it I can't tell for sure).

The PPA should be fixed now. Can you try updating and upgrading/installing?

Correction: It's not yet available for Trusty.

I reinstalled laptop from Lubuntu 14.04 to 17.10.1. Launcher is here, but another problem - tab Aircraft is total blank. I can't select UFO, or manual downloaded Concorde from my git. When I entered --aircraft=Concorde and click on Fly, FG launcher ignored aircraft selection and used default C172P. Other preferences works flawless. I again started launcher and from menu displayed command-line. Aircraft selection command --aircraft=... was here, but twice - first c172p, then Concorde. Something is wrong in the launcher for 17.10.1. I will test it for 17.04 and will report.

I've got the same problem too. I'm using Xubuntu 16.04 and I just upgraded FlightGear to 2018.1.1 from the PPA. When I click "Aircraft" in the launcher, nothing comes up.

I've tried running the program from the terminal with ~$ fgfs and then trying "Aircraft Centre" but it just immediately crashes. :?

Lubuntu 18.04, FG2018.1.1 from PPA - same problem - tab Aircraft is blank.
Aircraft center doesn't help, that tab is blank too.

When I used fgfs --launcher in the console, I found message qrc:///qml/AircraftList.qml:1:1 module QtQuick is not installed
IMHO, this is root cause of the problem. What now ?

I found solution for LUbuntu 17.10.1 and 18.04-daily. I manualy installed qtdeclarative5-qtquick2-plugin and qml-module-qtquick-window2 via sudo apt-get install command. Now, aircraft tab works !

The same problem happens on Debian unstable (sid)...
I installed the following packages and it fixed it:

Code: Select all
apt install install qml-module-qtquick2 qml-module-qtquick-window2

Installing these dependencies is still needed as of Sept 15th 2018 for mint 19 'Tara Cinnamon'.. I'm surprised as it's based off of Ubuntu..
