FG 2018.3.2 LINUX

Postby V12 » Thu May 09, 2019 1:57 pm

I have strange problem with freshly installed FG 2018.3.2 on Lubuntu 19.04. FG doesn't remember shaders settings, in settings tab I have checked ALS render, but after sim start there is default renderer, no ALS. Older 2018.3.1. on LUbuntu 18.04 and 18.10 working OK.

Try starting FG from a terminal; this way you can read log output. I have a hunch that it core-dumps when you exit; this happens to me rather often lately, and when it does, any options I have changed are not saved. If you start from a terminal, you can easily see this.

Problem solved. That machine has Quadro K1000M graphics and in the folder Video I found xml file with all advanced options turned off. I removed that file and all is OK.

Code: Select all
<PropertyList>

 <shaders>
  <quality-level type="float">0</quality-level>
 <shaders>

</PropertyList>

that's really weird... that file is there specifically to enable that Quadro card to even work properly... unless i'm thinking about another file for that card...

"Why not?" said Gurder.

IMHO, turn off all shaders make Quadro maximum compatible with FG. Problems are only on some machines with some bios and driver versions . I tested 3 laptops (HP ElitBook 6560, 6570, Dell M4600) with Quadro 1000M or K1000M, all works with FG perfectly with all shaders on the max settings. No incompatibility issues or glitches.

Questions to V12 Gnu-Quadro-FG

1. Do you get antialiasing-anisotropic working ?, if so, how much X is capable that Quadro ?

2. How many FPS do you get with your best choosing settings ?

3. Level of heat-noise running FG on that choosing

29.92 and thanks by advance.

There is not problem with antialias or anizothropic filtering, but with all FG features on max settings, I can't beat 10 fps on PHNL. When set landmass, transition and overlay shaders to minimum, fps is around 30. Overclocked K1000M has score 3300 in glmark2, GTX 750 Ti has 9000. For example, AMD FirePro M5950 got 5600 glmarks.
I have this card in HP EliteBook 8570, CPU i7 2670.
On full power laptop is loud and hot. This is nit good card for gaming purpose, FirePro M5950 is much better choice. But in my Dell 4600 2 FirePro suddenly died on startup. Not in full load. Very strange...
