Scenery Not Updating

Postby Alex H » Thu Oct 18, 2018 9:06 pm

Ubuntu 18.04

I've recently added about 40 wind turbines in 3 areas to the UK scenery in Northumberland

All the updates have been accepted and they all show as objects on the map ( one group shown here https://scenemodels.flightgear.org/map/?z=12&lat=50.5925&lon=6.72749)

However, they don't show in Flightgear when I fly round the area.

I have updated using Terramaster, I have Terrasync switched on and have now run out of ideas.

Help!
Regards

Alex

as i understand it, the scenery changes are all still a WIP... there was a large move to amazon and that required work to tie everything back together... it appears that more time is needed than originally estimated...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

So, reading between the lines, I'm wasting my time until this change is complete?

I have triggered an update manually, all data entered to the database by Monday afternoon should now be available via terrasync.

Sorry for the slow progress.

FWIW: i did see some scenery files being downloaded this morning during my update with terrasync.py...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."

It's still not working for me. I have even created a Windows10 version which has no terrain downloaded apart from the default and terrasync switched on. Flying round here does not show me the three wind farms I've added, with over 40 turbines which are all present and correct on the objects map.

Any further suggestions would be welcome

Tile location is w010n50/w002n55

I'm not sure about the file as the objects are not there!

the lat / long of one of the wind farms in that tile is 55°12'16.4"N 1°33'52.2"W (55.204542, -1.564508)

the turbines are model wtD90T105m and there are 14 at that location

Further investigation reveals the wind turbines are at the correct location, just buried in the ground so much you can't see them unless you are on top of them :D

When I 'planted' them with the UFO, I made sure that they were not floating above the ground or sunk into it too much, and only adjusted the exact lat/long before sending them for approval.

I also flew around them to make sure they looked OK before asking for the update.

Is something going wrong here or is it me?

here is an example from the file w010n50/w002n55/2925641.stg

OBJECT_SHARED Models/Power/wtD90T105m.xml -1.551317 55.202876 17.44 0

That indicates it's 17.44 meters above sea level and pointing north(?)

So why is it buried up to it's turbine?

Further reading suggests it's to do with 'elevation offsets', however the wiki does not explain this at all well.

Does it apply to all objects?

Further investigation with the UFO shows all the objects I have placed are below ground level, most completely.

Anyone care to explain why?

Is this the windpark you have added?

Your windturbine says the following on its model page: "Vestas V90 with 105 m tower. z=0 at rotor center, use offset for height". This means that the center of the rotor is the actual reference point that you are placing in the scenery. If you want to place a 90m version of this turbine for example, you would enter 90 into the offset field to make the center of the rotor "float" 90m above ground level.
