When practising rig landings I can suggest Loch Kishorn. XPLO Plockton is not far from the facility. All wonderful FGUKchoppers.

I believe those nuclear plans (in the background) will be shut down very soon.

I'm not sure. We will need more electric energy for electric cars...

I'd be more than mildly surprised if anyone would ever have given permission to build a nuclear power plant right next to the center of a major city. So I seriously doubt that is what you're seeing.

Oh yeah … you're right ! Someone has to remove the smoke, then ! ;)

Instead you're looking at Cooling towers (which for some weird reason many people associate with nuclear reactors) and the visible plume is steam rather than smoke - they cool by evaporation of water.

Given that it's Frankfurt, the two powerplants you see are the "Heizkraftwerk West" and "Heizkraftwerk Niederrad" (https://scenery.flightgear.org/app.php? ... &id=494533 and https://scenery.flightgear.org/app.php? ... &id=494530). A "Heizkraftwerk" (according to leo.org a combined heating and power station) burns some kind of fuel and uses the thermal energy to power electric generators as well as heating surrounding buildings. At least in Germany, they are not planned to shut down soon.

that's steam ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
